Elephant to predict Super Bowl winner by kicking field goals

Sometimes you get the strangest press releases when you work at a newspaper.

“ …SIX FLAGS DISCOVERY KINGDOM WILL ASK AN AFRICAN ELEPHANT TO PREDICT THE WINNERS OF THE SUPER BOWL BY KICKING FOOTBALLS OVER A SET OF GOAL POSTS. … “

After all the grief Six Flags in Vallejo has taken over the years for its mishandling of elephants and other wild marine and land mammals, it’s hard to believe they would set up a stupid, degrading publicity stunt like this. Completely insensitive.

Hey, maybe if the elephant is any good, the New England Patriots will draft it to be their field goal kicker for the 2008 season. /Gary

Maybe we should let the elephant kick the one who came up with this idea through the goalposts!! ;-)

  2. Kevin Says:

I never knew elephant physiology to be that fast to actually kick anything? Strong definitely, but not fast enough to kick something.

  3. Maggie Says:

What’s really insensitive and disturbing is the coverage the SF Chronicle gave to this by printing a photo of it and then on their website a video of the elephant being forced to do her stunt. Maggie

Yeah, well … so what do you expect from the Chronicle? /Gary
