I am returning to California from a 3 week "vacation" to the Olympic peninsula. I expected to see what I saw as a child - a vast wilderness of magnificent trees. What I saw shocked me. Miles upon miles of stumps and debris, interspersed with varying ages of "christmas tree farms". No diversity of undergrowth, heavy overplanting shutting out daylight. Very few birds!
I am reeling from the impact of this devastation to our country.

I left Washington several days early, because it was too painful to stay in the destroyed forests. I assumed California is not so devastated and has better laws in place because I don't see the widescale destruction here. Apparently that is not a correct assumption. I live in Sacramento. I have been thinking about returning to Washington write a photo journal e-book about the victims of this war. I guess I'll start in my own back yard. Please comment on some of the local areas to photo and write about.
