Hello, We have a goose couple visit every year. Supposedly the same 2 geese come back every year. We have a small pond with and island that the geese nest on every year. It's such a ritual of rebuilding the nest, "honking" other geese away, and keeping watch for predators. Every year something mysterious happens. They all disappear! After a day or even half a day the new born geese and the parents just disappear. Thank goodness that we don't have to step in goose poop for most of the summer while the little ones are raised. This is a natural occurence since other wild animals have to eat! We have fox, raccoons, hawks, and no telling what else that might eat a little goose. Year after year the same thing. They are nice to watch while they nest but good riddance.

Sharon:
I doubt that "man" had anything directly to do with it. Baby ducklings and geese in suburban and urban areas have a very high mortality rate because of all the predators that are after them. They get preyed on, day and night, by raccoons, opossums, skunks, foxes, coyotes, hawks, owls, cars (run over), dogs and house cats. I'm surprised that any survive. /Gary

Hi
I work in Shadelands Industrial park in Walnut Creek where many ducks, geese, turtles, etc., make their way down the streams daily. My co-workers and I have noticed some disturbing disappearances amoung the babies born at the park. We have had several sets of baby geese disappear and the mommas are then left to grieve. This week there were 4 small gosslings that disappeared, all in one night, no signs of feathers anywhere. I suspect that "man" is the culprit. They would have to be very experienced to get the babies away from mom and dad. Do you have any other ideas. It is very sad to see babies one day (after enjoying them for about 2 weeks)then the next day they are gone.

Can you help?
sincerely
