Heidi just e-mailed me these photos of a NEW baby beaver taken as it fed on top of
the beaver lodge in Alhambra Creek in downtown Martinez!
The photos were taken by Moses Silva (thanks Moses!) Heidi says there are at least TWO new youngsters at the site and they are less than a foot long. Cute doesn’t touch it!
We could start passing out cigars for the new beaver parents to celebrate, I suppose, but they would probably just eat them.

“Dam cute,” as Heidi says. /Gary

You can find out more about the Martinez beavers, and where and how you can go see them, on their Web site at http://www.martinezbeavers.org
There’s also a GREAT video of one of the new baby beavers, also taken by Moses Silva, to the tune of “The New ‘Kit’ in Town,” by the Eagles. You don’t want to miss this one!

Gary,
I am worried about the recent Coyote activity here in San Diego County. The ASPCA are setting traps and warning residents with pets and small children to be attentive in parks. I realize this is not an out of control situation and nature is nature. My question is how best to protect my 2 dogs-under 20 pounds. I live at the top of a canyon with a 3 inch gap fence, about 5 foot high in the backyard. My initial thought is to put a layer of chicken wire fence across to stop walk tru traffic, but obviuosly there is always a way around that. I will also control the garbage cans for less temptation. Basically my thought is supervised “play time” for the dogs and NO doggy door!!! Any comments or suggestions?
Thank you-David
