Mt. Diablo Interpretive Association has just published a new booklet: “Common Birds of Mount Diablo.”
This is a companion to the organization’s booklet on wildflowers and the one on trees and shrubs. A convenient size to tuck into your pocket or day pack, each booklet measures 9-inches by 4 inches.
Seventy local birds are featured with beautiful color photographs of them all, by “Bird Lovers of California.”
The author is John C. Robinson, well-known locally. John worked for over 25 years as a wildlife biologist and professional ornithologist for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. He is the author of several other books and a CD-ROM.
Copies of any of the three booklets can be purchased in Mt. Diablo State Park’s Visitor Centers at Mitchell Canyon and the Summit, for $5 each. They can also be ordered by mail for $7.25 including tax and postage by writing to: MDIA, P.O. Box 346, Walnut Creek, CA 94597-0346. Checks should be made out to MDIA.
Members of the Mt. Diablo Interpretive Association receive a 10 percent discount. All profits are used to support the State Park programs.

I’ve just been looking at a copy and it is excellent! Lots of large color photographs and interesting information on each of the birds, plus a field check list of birds of Mount Diablo tucked in a handy little pocket on the inside back cover. Sturdy glossy paper and nicely bound. Put it all together and $5 is a REAL DEAL! /Gary
