It is interesting, Gary that this argument that liberated mink will destroy native
wildlife, causing irreparable harm, is
usually preceded by the claim that the mink
will starve to death because they haven't been
taught to kill. If they don't know how to hunt,
then they certainly won't kill any wildlife. The
truth is, however, that mink kill out of instinct,
much as the domestic cat does. No training
or rehabilitation is necessary.
So do liberated mink destroy wildlife?
Of course they destroy some
wildlife. They are predators, and
they help maintain the balance of
nature by killing and eating prey
animals. But, at the same time,
they do not pose a threat to any
particular species as a whole.Also
in a time span of 2 years
Approximately 50,000 fur farm prisoners have
been released into the wild. If any of these
arguments had any merit, then why aren't we
seeing some evidence in areas were mink
have been released. Show some evidence Gary, before you go and post your bias and childish report.

Good points Gary...what a sad situation. I too think they'd be better off dead - quickly and painlessly, not by starving to death. Extremists don't always see the big picture. I think there's a disconnect between animal rights people and environmentalists. I think they have to go hand-in-hand because animal abuse can also harm the environment - witness factory farms, And actions like this hard the environment by unleasing these farmed minks on the local ecosystem, as you stated. And of course environmental degradation is essentially a violation of the rights of the creatures living there - for example the border fence. Were wildlife to have a criminal justice system, this would certainly be a capital crime!

What's saddest of all is that we still even HAVE mink farms in this country - it seems so archaic!
