We take over other animals habitat, build our structures, and when the animals want to come back to their territory, what do we do? We kill them because they are a nuisance. The human animal needs to learn to coexist with the other animal species. Acorn woodpecker numbers were going down for a long time but they are making a comeback. They are interesting and beautiful birds. Let them live their life because they only have one life to live like we do.

people invest many thousands of dollars into their homes. If they find that termites have invaded THEIR home, they call for an exterminator. They don`t complain that the contractor built the home with product that attract pests……… wake up….birds are no different…

I don’t thinkk they should profit at all; it was their own stupidity that brought about the whole unfortunate mess that lead to Tatiana’s death. Other criminals can’t profit from their crimes, why should they? If you ask me, they got off easy.

What is WRONG with these people?? They need to be educated how to live with wildlife. They moved into the neighborhood probably because it was “woodsy” and peaceful. Now they’re complaining that the innocent woodpeckers are drilling holes into their homes. Duh! From what I’ve heard the fascia is a soft, styrofoam material, which is really easy to drill into. I’m sure there are plenty of other manmade products on the market that are resistant to woodpeckers.

When will the killing stop? When all the nuisance birds and mammals are extinct?

I’m sorry that a dummy human had to die, BUT, I still feel bad that an endangered Bengal tiger had to give up her life. I knew from the minute I heard the story that those guys were up to no good. Really fishy that three 20-something-year-old males drive to SF Zoo late afternoon Christmas Day to see the animals.

People don’t read or obey signs. They figure they’re “special” and the signs are for other people.

I hope these two punks rot in jail and that the case is tossed out.

Your new kitten is a cutie. She looks like a Jazzie alright. I wrote in with a POOF suggestion but your pick was fine with me……. Would you do all of us readers a favor and put a picture of Newman in the whole so we can see what he looks like? Thanks……..
Back in the early 70′s I was a roofer. The guy that I worked for at the time had the contract to roof the Mira Vista tract in Antioch and those roofs were shake roofs. One morning I broke open a bundle of shakes and that thing was loaded with a million os so Lady Bugs that were nesting in there. I disturbed them when I opened that bundle and they responded with a vengeance. In a flash I had a few hundred get on my right arm and they dug in and let me tell you they can bite. They actually drew blood on my arm. They got in my clothes and in my hair so bad I had to get off of that roof till the next day. They may be small but they will protect their nest to the fullest.

I agree with Andrea Johnson, but still, the zoo’s primary job is to protect all the animals in the park, including the really annoying human ones.

Personally, I’d like to see the zoo punished for failing to adequately protect the tiger and the humans. But given the length of Tatiana’s tenure at the zoo, I think there’s a lot of circumstantial evidence that she was provoked, so I hope the suit is thrown out.

But still, the damn fence wasn’t high enough, the cat and one human are dead, and it’s a tragedy that could have been prevented.

Well, everything I heard at the time indicated that they were up on the wall, taunting and throwing things at the tiger. Why else would she have attacked them? Seems to me they were asking for it.
