I just received this copy of the Save Mount Diablo E-News from Save Mount Diablo:

Thanks to all of those who supported our end-of-year campaign. We surpassed our goal and are energized to start another year preserving natural lands — for example continuing our efforts on the Concord Naval Weapons Station. We hope to see you at the Concord City Council meeting or at one of our events on the mountain.

Monday, January 12, City of Concord final meeting Concord Naval Weapons Station

The Concord Council will hear from the public about all aspects of the two alternatives before them for the final time. Thanks to those who attended the Nov. 17 and Dec. 1 meetings — we packed the room at both meetings.

We need people to attend Monday, January 12 at 6:30 p.m. at the Baldwin Park Concord Senior Center at 2727 Parkside Circle.

This is the final City Council meeting to consider which alternative will be chosen and your last chance to have your voice be heard by the decision makers.

The conclusion will be that the city chooses a preferred plan and makes its recommendation to the Navy for a Reuse Plan. We need the room to be packed with supporters of open space.

It’s important that they hear from the public that we would like:

** Increased open space.

** A wider linear park along the boundary with existing neighborhoods.

** Solid guarantees that the open space will be transferred to East Bay Regional Park District as a public benefit conveyance (so that it will cost the public the least) as a new regional park.

Save Mount Diablo is a member the Community Coalition for a Sustainable Concord. We will have flyers with additional information at the meeting and Community Coalition stickers that we hope you will wear, identifying yourself as a supporter.

My concern. I was stationed there in 81-85. But while in Bremerton years later had a cable service man loose a fore arm. I can not help but see a military service member tiring to run ammunication from one area to another and dropped it. Years later someone is hurt and pays. Being a weapon station please do not make public, a child could get hurt. Leave to wild life and or military support. Our future could depend on it.
