Yes I’m back, Got in on Saturday afternoon after a 12 hour flight from Auckland, New Zealand, back to good old San Francisco.

My two weeks in New Zealand with my wife Lois was wonderful. Beautiful country with weather similar to our local Northern California weather. As many of you know, our son Karl has been working in Antarctica and we met in New Zealand for two weeks vacation together.

At the rate Karl has been traveling the world these days, it’s the only chance we get to see him for a while. He’s heading to Nepal via Bangkok so he can hike up to the Mount Everest base camp and snap a few photos. Ah, to be young again.

I thought I’d throw in a few photos of my own I took in New Zealand. Hope you enjoy looking at them as much as I enjoyed SEEING them!

More tomorrow. Now, back to wading through a couple thousand e-mails that came while I was gone … or, as they say … back to reality. /Gary

I left a message about the time you went on vacaation. It was that I counted 7 eggs in the nest. Mother Goose has done a good job. Now I’d like to see those goslings. The Web Cam is not working at the moment. I love your column in the Tribune.

Do you have any inside info as to when the Goose Cam will be up and running. I don’t want to miss the hatching!

When he is not underwater on the reefs, he volunteers his time on Tiritiri Matangi fixing trails and counting birds. He loves to explore and does lead groups on “tramps” through the South and North islands. His camera and walking sticks are his main equipment. He works for “ Your pictures look very familiar as we too have visited those places. The glacier’s are amazing and the color of the lakes and streams are so very blue. Tough to come back, eh?
