Gary, Just yesterday my cousin was hiking in eastern Washington state and reported almost having stepped on a rattlesnake. Would it be worthwhile for hikers to carry pepper spray or wasp/hornet spray at the ready in case suddenly they see a rattler organizing itself to strike? i.e. would the spray have no rapid effect? or trigger the desired flee instinct? or just make the defense instinct stronger? She was seriously frightened and very fortunate to have been able to jump away. Thanks!
