Hornworms: Guess what’s been eating your tomato plants?

Ever wonder what’s been eating all your tomato plants? Look at the photo above (taken in Concord). It’s a tobacco hornworm (Manduca sexta).
They LOVE tomato plant leaves. These caterpillars grow to about 3-4 inches, by the way. Huge. If you’re out in your garden early in the morning when it’s quiet, you can even hear one chewing on the tomato leaves: MUNCH! MUNCH! MUNCH! /Gary
