Native Bird Connections is a nonprofit organization that uses a collection of live, tame, nonreleasable eagles, hawks and owls to educate people of all ages about the wonders of nature. Last year they presented 584 programs that touched the lives of 17,792 people — including school children, scouts, senior living programs, after school enrichment programs, state and national park programs.

As Native Bird Connections supports our young people in their search for knowledge of the natural world around us, this organization also needs our financial support to help them survive these tough times.

Wild Birds Unlimited of Pleasant Hill, Calif., 692 Contra Costa Blvd. (across from Sun Valley Shopping Center) is holding a big fundraising party for Native Bird Connections, 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m. this Saturday (May 7). There will be a lot of fun stuff going on — nature exhibits, a demonstration beehive, the Worth A Dam people will be there to talk about the Martinez (CA) beavers, Native Bird Connections will be presenting programs with a live bald eagle and a live snowy owl, and the Contra Costa Avian Society will be there with information about caring for pet birds.

If you’d like to support Native Bird Connections, please drop by and leave a donation. Mike and Cecil, owners of the Wild Birds Unlimited store will match all donations to NBC, up to a maximum total of $1,000. Be sure and bring your kids (and your camera!) so they can enjoy all the fun.

I’ll also be there from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. to thank you for your support and to answer any of your questions. See you! /Gary
