Superb photos. Thanks.

And thanks for the racoon information. The remaining yerba buena remains, thanks to you.

I've been planting milkweed, the only plant monarchs eat. Thankfully so far it is the only plant that hasn't been mangled or eaten. It's not pretty, but the flutterbies are.

In MO my daughter delighted in the same kind of experience with Swallowtails. What a lovely experience. Nature heals us (mostly). The caterpillars were brilliant green with black stripes, kinda psychedelic.

For years I approached snakes closely to see their eyes and give them reprieve from whoever thought they were poisonous. Never yet got bitten. Since animals think in pictures, so I'm told, often wondered if that was why they cut me slack?

We live next door to two adorable little girls aged three and five. We gave the younger girl a birthday present of a "butterfly house" which came with a voucher for ordering caterpillars. (You can find them at most toy stores.) Just talked to the mom yesterday, and she said the girls have been fascinated with watching them eat, grow, and then build a chrysalis. They estimate that they have one more week until they become butterflies and can be released into the back yard. The kids across the street have been visiting them daily to watch the progress, too. If you ever need a gift idea, this is a great one for all ages! I'm thinking of getting one for myself, in fact.
