Hurricane Gustav: Animal groups help care for evacuated pets

Even as humans were being evacuated from sections of Louisiana that were hit by Hurricane Gustav, national nonprofit animal organizations were already rushing into the state to help their pets.

What to do with the S.F. Zoo?

A story in today’s San Francisco Chronicle says the San Francisco Supes supposedly want to turn the S.F. Zoo into a facility for rescued animals.

According to a report I heard on KCBS News radio about this story on my way into work this morning, the S.F. Supervisor measure would require that any future animal acquisitions at the zoo could only be rescued animals, such as animals confiscated by law enforcement from people who owned them illegally.

Let seniors take their pets to Cooling Centers on hot days!

Many Bay Area communities have opened Cooling Centers to provide relief to seniors from HIGH temperatures.

Unfortunately, pets are not usually allowed at city-owned community centers, libraries and senior centers. And a lot of seniors won’t go to the Cooling Centers if they have to leave their pets behind in the heat.

There’s a simple and easy solution to this that will make sure our senior citizens are not placed at risk on these very hot days …
