Top Pet Names of 2011

Every year, the Veterinary Pet Insurance Company (VPI) sends out a News Release of the most popular pet names gleaned from its membership database. It’s always kind of fun.  Unfortunately, my cats, Newman and Jasmine, have never made the list. They always seem to blame me, for some reason. Needless to say, they’re not very happy about it.

Oh, well, here’s this year’s pet name list. I figured at least you might enjoy it:

Pet Names: Top 10 dog and cat names of 2009

Hey, I just received my annual news release on the top 10 dog and cat names of 2009, and guess what? “Bella” beats out “Max” for top dog name!

For six years in a row, Max ruled the top spot. But in an upset that is sure to have dog owners talking, Veterinary Pet Insurance (VPI), has declared Bella the most popular dog name of 2009. VPI crunched the numbers on its more than 475,000 insured pets to determine this year’s most common names, and Bella beat out Max by more than 400 dogs.

Fans of Max, however, can rest assured that for cats, that name is still top dog – er, top cat.

OUR PETS: Top 10 wackiest dog and cat names of 2009

For many a pet owner, Max sounds mundane and Bailey is simply boring.

In order to pay homage to those who take pride in their pets’ unconventional names, Veterinary Pet Insurance Co. set out for the second year in a row to find the 10 most unusual dog and cat names in the United States.

VPI employees selected 50 unusual cat names and 50 unusual dog names from the company’s database of more than 470,000 insured pets, and narrowed them down by voting for the 10 most unusual names in each category.
