Tiger attack survivors finally sue S.F. city and zoo in federal court

The two San Jose brothers who survived a tiger attack by Tatiana, a Siberian tiger, at the San Francisco Zoo on Christmas Day, 2007, have finally sued San Francisco and the San Francisco Zoo for slander and civil rights violations. Tatiana was shot and killed.

What to do with the S.F. Zoo?

A story in today’s San Francisco Chronicle says the San Francisco Supes supposedly want to turn the S.F. Zoo into a facility for rescued animals.

According to a report I heard on KCBS News radio about this story on my way into work this morning, the S.F. Supervisor measure would require that any future animal acquisitions at the zoo could only be rescued animals, such as animals confiscated by law enforcement from people who owned them illegally.

S.F. Zoo: Was Tatiana the tiger “frantic for food” when she killed?

Hungry big cats are more aggressive.

Thursday, an excellent in-depth KCBS News radio report said Tatiana’s loss of 50 pounds since her arrival at the zoo from Denver two years earlier may have heightened her aggressive behavior.

The report indicated notes in a log by the tiger’s keeper said, “Tatiana frantic for food.”
