Charley Plummer for interim Hayward City Manager...now that's a great idea! During the arduous process of selecting a new manager, Hayward will be led by a person clearly overqualified for the job. I personally worked for the City of Hayward for almost 30 years. I was management employee who was clearly impressed by the leadership and wisdom demonstrated by Charley Plummer in his 10 years as Hayward's Police Chief. During Chief Plummer's tenure Hayward became the first law enforcement agency west of the Mississippi River to become formally accreditated by the internationally recognized Commission on Accreditation for Law Enfocement Agencies (CALEA). When Charley Plummer became the five-time elected Sheriff of Alameda County he continued to effectively ply his unique style of leadership while creating a work culture that exudes integrity, honesty, and ethics. Throughout his time as Sheriff he has lived in Hayward and continued to be active with our fair city. The current Mayor and most of the present City Council members have sought his endorsement. After retiring from Hayward I went to work for the Alameda County Sheriff's Office primarily for one reason...so I could work for Charley Plummer again. There has been a tremendous turnover in the senior management staff in Hayward during the past several years. We need the firm, steady leadership only a person like a Charley Plummer can provide to guide us through this coming period of uncertainty at the City Manager level. We will be totally blessed if Brian Schott's excellent idea comes to fruition.
