If you build it …

We’re not sure what libertarian hero Ayn Rand would say about government-subsidized multiplexes, but avowed “Fountainhead” fan Brad Blake (so you know, he also likes the Maserati Quattroporte and “Caddyshack”) on Tuesday will be asking the city of Hayward for $1.5 million to help his company build the 12-screen Cinema Place project downtown. Here’s the latest image of what it’s going to look like:

The Hayward Redevelopment Agency (aka the Hayward City Council) will be voting on whether it should appropriate the extra money and amend its plan at 8 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall, 777 B St. If all that works out, construction is supposed to begin later next month.

And while we’re at it, let’s appropriate funds to tear down the eyesore, I mean, the dead Zorn’s building at A & Mission. If this gentleman wants foot traffic for his cinema oasis, making the neighborhood look less blighted would help.
