6 + 9 = 15 Right? If that is the case why do we have sixteen (16) opportunities to vote for a choice?
No explanation in the Review? Such thuroughness by Review is typical of the problem with it’s survival!

The candidacy of the un-mentioned individual may turn out to be the spoiler causing an additional election?
SHOULD THAT UNFORTUNATE, EXPENSIVE EVENT OCCUR…. BLAME IT ON THE REVIEW!

Then, in the Sunday edition we see an advertising insert which advises the community of the scheduled opening of the new Theater on October 24th. Not found in the advertisement is advice of reputed intent to show foreihn language films with English sub-titles.

Had the advertisment indicated intent to show foreign language films with English subtitles, potential tenants for the ‘several’vacancies in down-town area might have been picked up by entreprenuerial types who understaqnd “synergistic” opportunity in cateruing to needs of recent emigres and their progeny who have desire to find entertainment which provides remini- scence of cultural matters.

The Review, if it really expects to survise ought lead the community in building a community comcern (not limited to parental concern) for conditions presently found withinin our schools.

It is only by concerted COMMUNITY involvment that those failing scores will be remedied. Expand upon that when you consider that English as a second language is not limited to Latino population.

Only by raising the level of concern through involvment of the broader community will we once again relize pride in City as well as HUSD.

Review can be big assit in that idea. Then too, if it continues it’s downward slide who would be interested in purchasing the remnants od that business, if not the general populace?

I am also looking forward to the coverage of the candidates in the Daily Review. All candidates did receive the opportunity to answer a questionnaire sent out and it was to be returned to Mr. Kurhi on October 3rd. I am hopeful that this information will be shared with the readers soon as well as coverage from the last Candidate Forum.

Hayward 339, at this point I am asking informed voters to help me spread the word and share my vision. I thank you for any assistance you might provide.

The article above was posted Sept. 24th and here it is the 18th of October. Gives pause to wonder does it not, especially since many absentee votes are already returned by mail!

One of the problems with the Review, which is key to it’s survival, is that it does not appear to be contributing to solutions but is very quick to report the negative stuff like the Mt. Eden beef of recent past which by the way was a drain on the City’s budget allocation to HPD.

It makes one ask the question about the 14 employees described as security personnel. We have one of those latter types living in what started out to be the “Site Resident’s” quarters. An Idea that succeeded only as long as HUSD could suffer the thought that they did not really accept the idea, that there was a large savings ih Vandalism Costs experienced prior to installation of the original resident. Not having lived in Hayward prior to the installation of the site resident, HUSD executives assumed there had been none. There simply is no explanation for their behavior when demanding the return of the keys.

Now we have a secirity person living there who was totally unaware of the many graffiti attacks ocurring prior to my May 2008 meeting with that individual in my home. All that was required of him, per the lease,
was that he pay $750. per month rent (Utilities included.”After all, HUSD needed the money”

Well, he also holds down a job at Oakland Airport, so of course he had no time to notice the increase in graffiti vandalism at Longwood for the six months prior to the recent painting of the school nor the numerous attacks between July Completion of the paint work and School class resumption in late August.

One wonders if the $750 per month (including utilities) offsets the amount the above contributed to the annual expense to HUSD of …’ around $100,000. per year’!

Do teachers who supply paper etc to their classrooms have any idea how much those personal contri\bvutions total throughout the district? Would it be enough to spare the teachers those out of pocket expenses which present budget ignores?

If I seem bitter it r bcauz I am! It makes for one hell of a story if Review ever wakes up to it’s dimming prospects for survival!

At the last forum, CommPre/La Familia, the candidates were all asked about the violence in the schools. It is my feeling that we must have a visible leadership that clearly outlines the actions and consequences and then aggressively and consistently enforces these. When we have such a big problem with violence in our schools, we must make it very clear that this will not be acceptable and make sure everyone knows what the consequences will be. When you are a proven risk to the safety and welfare of our student population, you should not wonder where we stand. I do agree that we need to do our part in guiding our youth and providing strong role models and engaging programs to help our students stay focused on education, but once they have proven a lack of concern for the safety of the staff and students, I think our responsibilities shift to the welfare of those students that come to school to learn. If we make our schools a haven for the violent and disrespectful youth, the flight out of Hayward will be swift and permanent. Provide support and guidance, but when the time comes … TAKE A STAND!

I also think we need to work on our communication with the Hayward PD. I was interested to find out that when the BART shooting occurred, Burbank did not go into a lockdown. There were students out playing while the suspect was not in custody. I phoned the police department to find out how this process works and I believe this is another area we need to address. How do we make sure there is a process in place to protect our students from activity outside of the schools control.
