E-mail blast criticizes CVHS diversity day

Monday, March 16th, 2009 at 4:35 pm in Castro Valley, General, Schools.

A parent apparently frustrated over an incident at Castro Valley High School that involved a lesbian guest speaker somehow managed to get a list of many school parents’ e-mails. The parent sent the following message in an e-mail:

CVHS Parent Alert

Concerned Parents, Thursday, March 12, 2009

Time to WAKE UP!

After yet another day of devastation in today’s society that is me trying to preserve my job, house and family, tonight at dinner my CVHS student tells me that his math class was interrupted by a guest speaker for the first time this year. This speaker starts out describing herself as a pastor at Eden Church of Hayward. Then she immediately goes into some tirade about being gay and transgender and coming out of the closet.

I am thinking didn’t I just sign like 5 permission slips from Health Class on just how much brainwashing I am willing to accept being inflicted on my impressionable child at this young age. How much control I am willing to give up so that I can focus on surviving the enormity of events that occur daily that can sink the best of us into giving up.

Now I find out that the influence of the gay agenda at CVHS is much worse than I had been led to believe. I already knew that most of my child’s teachers were gay. So what else is new? The hysteria over Proposition 8 has gone so far past tolerance now that outright brainwashing is the new new plan to influence future voters. As a lifelong bay area resident I have become accustomed to the constant barrage in all media about gay parade this and gay everything that. I have got a news flash for you. Some people are more concerned about keeping their jobs, homes and families together than worrying about whether every gay person in the bay area is treated perfectly every minute of every day.

Guess what we are all mistreated everyday! My parents mistreated me. The last cop that gave me a ticket mistreated me. The punk rocker with his IPod in his ear that gave me my coffee at Starbucks this morning mistreated me. The Governor, Legislature, County Board of Supervisors, School Board, Sanitary Board and even the Neighborhood Watch guy mistreated me ten times in the last five minutes and I don’t even know it yet.

So I am asking why is math class interrupted for the gay mantra, because the pendulum has swung too far yet again. On one side we are never allowed to have an abortion even if it kills you and on the other we are constantly pressured to think politically correct or we are labeled as some type of intolerant ogre.

I am really getting sick of all this. Can’t I just raise my family the best way I know how? Can’t I teach my child that the middle of the road is OK. That you do not have to sacrifice your life for some extremist cause because that is what the establishment is pressuring me and my child to do.

This slide show presentation in math class today was over the top. The kids were given step by step instructions on how to become gay and transsexual. They were given a list of websites to visit some of which were so disgusting that they should be labeled porn sites. How many other classes has this occurred in? How long has this been going on? Where is the oversight? Did CVHS Principal Pete Alverez sanction this or is the situation beyond his control and sanctioned by the CV School Board. Call and ask himat 510-537-5910 ext. 3801

I do not know about all of you parents but this is not the Continued Excellence as we were promised in the last election just four months ago.

Something needs to be changed!

Signed,
Concerned CVHS Parent

I was born and raised and my kids were born and raised in Southern Alameda County. I am a CVHS/NHS Alumni (CVHS freshman/sophomore year). My parents had to put up with Cinco de Mayo being shoved down my throat. I had to put up with Black History Month being crammed down my kids throat. Now this! When is this “diversity” garbage going to end. My parents, my kids, and I are not biggots or predjice, but enough is enough. I agree with the e-mail sender.

Our public school system is supposed be teaching our kids the 3 R’s! For those of you who never got a real education 3 R’s, Reading, Riting, Rthmtic. Not diversity! If the CVHS principal wanted to have diversity day then send home parental notices. Have an assembley in the gym for those with permission slips. Not interupt a class.

It should be up to the parent if they want their child to attend such things. Also the principal’s responsibility to see that the parents are informed, so they can make their minds up to send the child to that assembly.

Like I said I’m not predjice, heck I’ve been married a Mexican-American gal for 35 years. One of our daughters is Bi-sexual living with a Africian-American Bi-sexual gal. So throw out all that predjice garbage in my direction.

My point is school is for learning not how diverse we should be. Want to learn “diversity” offer it as a collage course. Get our kids back on course with a real education.

An ex Southern Alameda County resident.

To comment on this parents letter:
First we are all allowed to have an abortion if we so much choose to. Now about diversity and the fair playing field, to allow a pro-gay as she implies to speak to the children it should be balanced by an opposing presenter to equal the material that the kids have to decide their viewpoint upon. The Principal hopeful was aware of the subject and was in the know (encourage all to call and ask themselves) of the content presented and websites given. Diversity is a fair and balanced inclusion of all sectors and ideas, Lets not get blurred with the term diversity. Please open your minds and your hearts.

I’m sorry but the budget cuts that are in the future, cutting music programs, eliminating full time teaching jobs etc. and then you read something like this. I have no problem with my child being taught tolerance and understanding I’m just not so sure about this lesson. It did seem to me that the school did’nt do such a good job communicating this lesson to involved parents. My sons school seems to have a problem with getting info out as well. It can be very frustrating as you are entrusting your child’s welfare in the education system.

  • J. W. Kyle

    Well, I’ll be hornswoggled!

A female ‘Minister’ wearing a ‘collar’ and identified as an associte pastor of Eden Church…. gets to interrupt a math class to bring “the message”……

Somebody better call Rush Limbow and fill him in on this ‘hot story’! California schools need ‘the heat’!

Then too… it appears that a violation of separation of church and state may have occurred….. so what happened to the opportunity for the headlines needed to save the ANG Newspapers?

  • cwbyht

And of course this is being labeled hate mail. Simply because a parent dares to take an opposing viewpoint.

I’ve got news for you parents… the school already has a program of indoctrination planned out for your children. And you better not interfere, or you may be arrested for commiting a hate crime. You’ll be sent to a re education camp.

What do you say to a homophobic parent? Only “please don’t taint your children with your issues.

  • Kim Santos

Mr. Kyle, if you read the article, it says Ms. Nehring was there talking about her experience as a gay female community member who happens to be a pastor. She was not there to talk exclusively about religion.

THis is nothing but a Stupid parent writing a stupid letter. Castro Valley has had gay kids attending CVHS coming out to their parents since the late 80′s. Diversity is a great thing. Back in the 80′s Your exact letter could have been written, but instead of attacking GAYS and LESBIANS it would have been about BLACKS and LATINO’s in Castro Valley. You are ruining your child and you broke the law to access the email list. SICK SICK SICK.
    Take a looksy you bigot.

For gay teens, life is better–and worse. They see more role models but AIDS is unrelenting.

Here’s how Daniel Paul Layer Jr., 18, of Castro Valley, Calif., sees himself in 20 years: “I’ll have my own business and have made enough money to do what I want . . . I’ll have a house in the country . . . I’ll have been settled down with somebody for a long time, and have three children: a boy to carry on my family name, a girl to spoil and an ‘It’–whatever the third child happens to be. The first two will be mine, but the third could be adopted.”

An ordinary enough dream for a teenager– but Daniel Layer is gay. Ten years ago not many gay adolescents would have considered such a dream obtainable. Traditionally, growing up gay has meant years of self-loathing and a sense of isolation from classmates and family. Hesitant to combat the social sentiments that gay is not good, many gay teenagers still repress their homosexuality until adulthood, spending their adolescence pretending to be straight. Meanwhile, other impulses are at work: in an era when teens feel peer pressure to experiment with sex earlier, many are often forced to face the question, “Am I gay or not?” long before they’re ready. For those who are gay, the strain often leads to depression. Paul Gibson, a San Francisco social worker who did a study of teen suicide for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, believes gays nationwide account for 30 percent of all teen attempts. “The root of the problem,” says Gibson, “is a society that stigmatizes homosexuals while failing to recognize that a substantial number of its youth are gay.”

    Dear ms. Santos;

I was resonding to the CVS parent who wrote ane-mail to others of her acquaintence which apparently includes Mr. Noceda. I don’t think I saw an ‘article’ in my copy of the paper which employs you as ‘City newsroom editor. Oddly your organization has not had a decent posting on this blog for some time and I easily imageine the putrp[ose of passing along the E-mail sent to Castro Valley parents was published on the blog as a means to juice up the ‘hit’ count’

I did make an egrehgious error when I assumed that the
Pastor, Ms. Nehring was wearing a ‘collar’; for that fault I apoligize.

In your critique of my submission at 8.) above you state that Pastor Newhring was not there to talk exclusively about religion…..SO, AM I TO ASSUME THAT BY THE CONTEMNT OF THE LAST SENTENCE IN 8.) ABOVE… SHE DID SHE NOT TALK RELIGION?

At age 17 I sihned on as a crew memner of the Matson Company’s “LURLINE” which sailed between Hawaii and alternately, San Francisco and Los Angeles.I neded the work and took on the opportunity, whicjh paid quite well with overtime for ythe hours past the 8 hour day, Saturdays and Sundayas at Seas and days in port were alos ‘double time’ in this highly ‘organized’ uniomn job.

I was attacked on night after putting in a 12 hour day washing dishews on a split shift totaling 12 hours per day. The ATTACK resulted in a fist fight and I

  • J. W. Kyle

Well, thre is a new thing…. got cut off before finishing whta I had to say….

    contiued….

…. and I had a very black eye which was the subject of much comment amongst ‘galley crew’ the next morning.

A stewarsess noticed and spoke to the ‘Union rep’ amongst the sxcullion crew. He was a tall African American …. he invited me to take refuge, away from the homosexual element,in the voluntarily segregated crew where according to his description…. every single guy in those compartments is ‘straight’ The man who extended the invitation, with the assistance of a vanother very large Blackman hsuled ny opponrent in the fight, stoofd him before me and invited me to sweing away… which I refused to do…. they then invited the individual to be the first down the gangplank, with his seabag, at the next West Coast Port. Which he did! I took off/

Thew stewarsess? She was of mixed race, quite attractive and much later in life she was shoy to death in her doorway by a paroled felon whom she was trying to assist in the search for a job…. she was also Black Panther leader Huey Newton’s mother in law!

That ship board esperinece was the greatest single thing I took off the ship because it gave me an ioncreidble insight into the life expereinces suffer4ed due to racial predjudice in the USA. Later when I was drafted into the Ar4may, that experience stood me in good stead in an Army which was then desegregated but still had the problem of finding quarters for Black married men seeking off base housing. It was worse in the USA than it was in 1he 1950′s era of the German Nation and it also was EVIDENT IN THE RANKS… TOP TO BOTTOM!

The point of all this is that I understand prejudice and have not copnciously involved myself with that activity…. including the homosexualpopulation.

As a Catholic I am concious of the Church teaching on the subject. As homosexuality appears to violate the ‘natural law’ ( of whic law God is seen as the creator), Be assured that the discussion of the matter includes a caution to the faithful that the final judge of the matter is God! ( Judge not lest you be judged !)

I, for one, appreciated “concerned parent” providing us the number to the school principal’s secretary, and used it to call and thank the principal for providing this program at CVHS.

I am troubled by the fact that this parent somehow got a hold of the school’s e-mail list, and think they should investigate how this happened!

If some school employee was responsible for this leak, they should be disciplined,

    Fernando

  • cwbyht

If this was a school employee, I applaud their courage for alerting parents to whats going on.

What gives the school the right to do this without alerting parents in the first place?

Whoever is responsable for that, is the one that should be disciplined.

  • J. W. Kyle

I really sympathize with CVS Parent who seems frazzled by her working parent position in life.

She signed herself ‘Concerned CVS Parent’ wjich seems reasonable enough given the viciousness of the several responses conributed by ‘critics’ who deliver in everal occasionS SEEN above some vicious comments while hiding behind a ‘nom de plume’

As I re-read some of the above I note that the author of the original E-mail, (so aptly contributed by Kris Noceda as a means of generating revenue generating ‘HITS’ on the blog,0 I observe that the lady Named the Principal and gave out the principal’s phone number. So, fire the Secretary while he is away from the office?

So, how do we jump to the idea that the Parent ‘Hacked’ the school’s computer….that individual slanders another and in the most cowardly of techniques used for purposes 0f slander…. uses a nom de plume! see # 17 ABOVE BY OSEVEN.

SHUCKS, THERE IS NO NEED TO ‘HACK’ THE SCHOOL COMPUTER! jUST READ THE PHONE NUMBERS ON THE SCHOOL WEB SITE….. IF THE pRINCIPAL HAS A SEDCRETARY DOES SENDING A MESSAGE TO THE PRINCIPAL SUGGEST HARRASSMENT OF THE SECRETARY?

USUALLY WHAT HAPPENS IS THAT VARIOUS ACTIVITIES, IN WHICH PAREWNTS ARE ACTIVE, SEES CIRCULATION OF NAMES AND E-Mail addresses for purposes of circulating NEWS ABOUT parent Reiented activity for fund raisers etc…..
Of course had her critic at #17) above been aware of that he/she would know how the e-mail addresses are obtained. failing that understanding implies tha ‘OSEVEN” is not a certfiable active parent.

Then another heroic indiviual, ‘cybyht’ hurls the word homophobia….at # 16.) above… then appears to back off With contribution # 19.) THERE IS A STEADY HAND ON THE HELM!

Frenando ! Go back and read the original e-mail as posted by Noceda….

Read between the l;ines…. did her kid actually say the Math Class was interrupted? Or was this part of a day long activity in which ‘minutes’ of instruction were reduced…..Perhaps ir wasn’t a Math Class ??// Pedrhaps it was an assembly outide of those precious moments of instruction….

Pleasedo not identify the lady’s child… perhaps he confuses the importance of math as opposed to the ‘reverend’s topic ?

Seems to me that a smart reporter would have sought clarification by the principal before bringing ‘the post’ to the blog! ( even if it was for a great cause that is to say, we need those ‘hits’ to keep the print media alive!

I recall the old days when Irish widows would gather and exchange information obtained from various obituaries seen published in the many newspapers we once enjoyed in the bay area… my own beloved immigrant Grandmother, (a subscriber to the Chronicle) used to refer to the obituaries as the Irish ‘Sporting Green’ Tyhe hits are needed to keep the ol;d traditions alive. at least as they existed around published obituaries.

So, keep the ‘hits’ coming folks… it is all for a good (?) purpose…..GOSSIP !

The school system has no right to teach anything that is not in the approved curriculum by the School District Board and Superintendant. Parents are responsible for their children until they are 18 and therefore parent rights cannot be usurped for any reason or purpose. The school systems’ job is to teach the academics and they have enough trouble doing that as the statistics have proven over the years.

These parent’s whose email addresses received this original letter were NOT AVAILABLE to just any parents having a tantrum about the things taught in school.

That email list was STOLEN from the district, not legally, because that information is not made available for the general public.

It is quite a simple to do if you knew anything about hacking, trojan horses and back doors.

That parent who wrote the original letter went to extreme lengths to get ahold of parents in a most unorthodox and COWARDLY way.

    WHO is hiding their identity?
    The ORIGINAL LETTER WRITING PARENT.
Who couldn’t even sign their REAL NAME because they know they should be ashamed for their bigotry?
    The ORIGINAL LETTER WRITING PARENT.

    WHAT A COWARD.

If you don’t like what they teach over at the HS, take your kid to private school, MOVE into the lovely HAYWARD USD, or just homeschool them.

There are many options instead of trying to assume that no one would get anything valuable out of the GLBT information the speaker was giving students.
There always will be some gay kids in school and they need to know they are not alone.
If you think this will somehow turn YOUR kid into a gay person than too bad — you need more help than any of us can give you. Might i suggest a therapist to talk through your phobia.

But Please take your bigotry elsewhere because as a parent of a CVUSD student, we don’t need your narrow mindedness ruining these precious children.

The high schoolers are mature enough to handle the fact that there are people getting killed in Hayward, that there are hookers on E. 14th in Ashland, and that there are GAY PEOPLE in Castro Valley.

  • cvhs parent

Why is it that every time one is losing the argument, that person asks the opponent to “take your kid to private school, MOVE into the lovely HAYWARD USD, or just homeschool them”? Just because someone disagrees with you, you call them a “bigot.” I call this kind of tirade the worst of all bigotry. All taxpayers have a say about public education, and everyone has a right to public education. Public education should be neutral on politics and cover topics in an objective manner.

I don’t think any kind of public funding, funded by my tax dollars, should go into any one-sided presentation of the world to the anyone, especially impressionable minors. And no, I would not agree to a use of that funding for a presentation by a prostitute on the “Life of a Hooker on E 14th in Ashland” so that the high schoolers can experience “diversity”.

And instead of spending energy charging that parent with doing something illegal, try addressing the violation of the ed code by the school for scheduling this kind of presentation/promotion of someone’s sexual preference in science and math classes without parental consent.

  • cwbyht

And parents have the right to know whats being instructed at a PUBLIC school Oseven. They also have the right to have their children excused from the classroom should the instruction go against their religious or moral views.

Who gave you the right to decide what others views should be, and calling them bigots should they disagree?

  • J. W. Kyle

Well, as expected, OSEVEN continuee the rant while hiding behind the ‘non de plume’. Most offensive is the use of the word coward while describing the author of the e-mail delivered as an expose’ by Kurhi.

This implies self descrition by oseven as… a coward!

Looks to me as though CVHS needs greater security devices if oseven says it is easy to hack the e-mail list. Where did oseven gain such knowledge of the CVHS computer system?

Then too oseven seems to overlook the fact that not all the families, whoose children attend CVHS, have a computer available to parents. Requiring an e-mail address of parents seems discrininatory to low income families, of which group I suspect, a few still remnain in CASTRO VALLEY SCHOOL DISTRICT.

Then too, the e-mail list which was re-putedly stolen must be a very short list, or more support for/by Globe and the Reverend Eden Church Minister would have occurred on this blog.

Finally, if oseven is so well informed can he/she describe the conditions on the day of the offense? Was it interruption of class and misuse of the allocated time for instruction or was it a general assembly outside the time proscribed by law amount as time meant strictly for instuction?

    BRAINWASHING??
    INFLUENCE OF THE GAY AGENDA??
    HYSTERIA OVER PROP 8??

And you cwbyht have the nerve to deny to us here that this letter writer is a bigot?

They clearly wrote bigoted comments regarding gay people. Care to explain that?

As far as I know, there is NO agenda from gay community or the High school to corrupt your high schoolers. There is only freedom of speech and TOLERANCE. If it walks like a bigot and talks like a bigot (clearly this Original letter writer does) than it must be coming from a bigot.

Why didn’t this letter writer sign her name? Could it be because they know they are wrong to feel the way they do?

Do any of YOU truly believe that because CVH included a GAY speaker in their DIVERSITY campaign, that they are trying to influence High Schoolers to vote NO on Prop 8 next time or turn them gay?

Some parents clearly cannot handle allowing their children to attend public school. Since the school has done NOTHING wrong or immoral, the only solution would be to remove your child from the school that teaches things you don’t agree with. If you do not, you are being negligient in your child’s education and development.

Since Parochial schools would never teach your kids about being gay (keep in mind they also won’t teach them about reproduction, disease, abuse, and a host of other things that are too taboo for them) that is a viable option for those who prefer their children to stay in the dark about society ills.

Homeschooling you can teach just about whatever you want, skydiving included. Have at it.

Too late for this particular parent, but those of you who agree with her, better start saving up for private school because it is about $600 a month for HS tuition.

This situation is well within the schools rights to inform kids of what tolerance and diversity means, you won’t have much luck getting them to ban future gay speakers, just like you won’t have much luck banning BLACK speakers although I am sure some parents would prefer that as well.

I personally am PROUD that our HS is teaching the kids to behave and be accepting and tolerant of gay people as well as whomever else falls into the diversity category. Who are you to judge ANY of them? Keep your religion to yourself and think rationally about this.

“J. W. Kyle wrote: Well, as expected, OSEVEN continuee the rant while hiding behind the ‘non de plume’. Most offensive is the use of the word coward while describing the author of the e-mail delivered as an expose’ by Kurhi.

This implies self descrition by oseven as… a coward!”

Don’t try to change the subject to vilify me. This is about the OP’s letter to the schools parents and how they got their hands on parents emails.

I am merely responding on a website to an irrational parent’s argument on how their children are far to sensitive to handle gay speakers in math class.

I did not make myself a target by instigating a parental revolt- demanding that those conservative intolerant parents to storm the office and ask for the head of the principal on a platter because he let the kids hear words from a gay person during math class. Heavens to Betsy.

I have no interest in becoming a public figure having been one in the past. But I am entitled to my opinon and expressing it as you are. I disagree with this nonsense that this doesn’t fall under diversity training.

I understand being frustrated by not having complete control over what your children are being taught in school, but the REAL ISSUE is why are you so against this lone gay person coming in to talk for 5-1o minutes about respecting and tolerating gay people?

Are you against being tolerant of people different from yourself?

Are you against respecting others who have different points of view?

I cannot fathom how in 2009 people are so uptight about gay people and about teens, and even middle schoolers, learning to treat EVERYONE -including gay people- with respect and tolerance.

What kind of parents DON’T want that?

  • qodrn

I grew up in Castro Valley, but I have to admit having your class interrupted is not the worse thing to happen. I went to both Catholic and public school, and yes they do teach you about sex and protection in both settings. What I am concerned about is the recent article in the paper concerning a person known to the schools and police that had been exposing himself to students in Hayward. What we don’t know is was this all this nut was planning (bad enough) or was there more. Yet, I don’t recall (and neither do my sons) being notified by the police (and there is no reason this idiot would stick to one area) about this guy being around our Hayward schools or by the school district. This is the kind of thing I want any school to nofify me as a parent. In addition, as parents, we don’t get notification of most of the school assemblies and programs. It would be nice to pull out my student by my choice out of this stuff. I MAY simply believe that son would better spend his time studying his math at this point in his life, nothing at all against whatever the assembly might be. Parents are not given notice. This is what drives us crazy. Yes, strangely enough, I want to know all about what my kid is doing. Not control, just know, so I can step in if needed. But schools seem to want to prevent this. So it feels like they have plenty to hide. I truly think parents should keep all the kids home from all schools and get them to shape up. Sheesh.

“Are you against being tolerant of people different from yourself?”

No but you appear to be.

People with religious values are forbidden to speak in school. I’m sure you aplaud that.
A person with gay values is fully allowed to speak.

Do you support those with an opposing point of view to speak to the students too? Oh yes, They’re ALL bigots.

  • OSEVEN

“People with religious values are forbidden to speak in school. I’m sure you aplaud that.”

Who’s religious values are you speaking of?

    MORMONS? FLDS? JEHOVAH’S WITNESS? EPISCOPALIAN’S? LUTHERAN’S? CATHOLIC’S? MUSLIM’S? HINDU’S? BUDDHIST’S?

Which RELIGIOUS VALUES are you referring to for them to speak about?

All? None? Just the ones you believe in?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Separation_of_church_and_state

Yes, I am happy that all public schools that get funding from the Gov’t *Schools that you send your kids to FOR FREE* does not offer a BIBLE CLASS.

How would you even decide which Bible to offer students?
QURAN? TORAH? KING JAMES? LOTUS SUTRA? VEDAS?
    What about Athiest or Agnostics?

If you want your kid to pray in class and have chapel every week then save your dollars away and send them to the parochial school of your choice, there are a variety to choose from.

“A person with gay values is fully allowed to speak.”

What are Gay Values? Can you elaboate on just what a Gay Value is and how it differs from a Straight Value?

I happen to have attended both Parochial Schools and Castro Valley High as well as have all my children in the Castro Valley school system. I also happen to know Gay people who have excellent upstanding values and attend church more frequently than I do and love their children and were even MARRIED in a church.

BIGOT: one who regards or treats the members of a group (as a racial or ethnic group) with hatred and intolerance.

Yes, the original posters letter is filled with bigotry against Gay people.

I call ‘em like I see ‘em.

Poor OSEVEN fails to recognize a salient point in all the above…… was classroom instruction time mis-used or was this a general assembly?

If the math class was interrupted, for even a minute, then it seems the inrerested parent who wrote the initiakl e-mail has ewvery right to protest the misuse of HIS child’s c;ass room time. Those minutes are important to the scheduled purpose.

Cosider also that the “Reverend’ was taching gay values wjhich are contrary to ‘natural law’ as espoused in articles of faith by many religious groups.
I woulod thing that ought be taught in Eden Church and not in public schools. Thus public schools ought avoid any discussion advisingt ‘questioning youth’ finding homosexuality as beinhg ok. Let gloge hire a hall for that purpose!

You see, oseven tolerance is one thing but advising ‘questioning youth’ vilotes the ‘right’ of other ‘members of the cloth’ to offer alternative advice!

I SUSPECT THAT WE SEE IN THE ABOVE CONTRIBUTIONS THE RATIONALE FOR OSEVEN’S VARIOUS STATEMENTS THAT HE/SHE ONCE WAS A PUBLIC FIGURE BUT HAS NO INTENTION OF BECOMING ONE AGAIN…!!

I am actually a student at CVHS
Being raised in America I have been taught all my life
to respect other races, cultures, and sexualities.
all these things i hold in respect

I firmly believe that the students of CVHS do respect homosexual people to certain extents. Of course, these a days, slang is heard everywhere that is often offensive to many peoples. Days of Diversity is a program that teaches us to respect other people’s view’s. This is certainly a noble thing that the school teaches us,

On the other hand I am a firm believing Christian. I do not approve, but do not look down upon homosexual people. To tell the truth i think that they’re actually very nice people. The last thing i’d want is to have someone else pushing their belief’s and views upon me, something that Days’ of Diversity aims for others not to do. I have never and will never force my set of beliefs on to other people.

I believe that this parent was worried that their child was being taught this without proper notification. Parent’s MUST HAVE notification of these things before something like this. It is almost like when the teacher in san francisco decieded to take his/ her students to see the gay wedding. If i was a parent I’d be frightened that i would not have the proper chance to tell my kids or at least talk to them about this current issue.

Being a public school student i am uncomfortable enough to have taken sex education. But at least for sex ed my parent’s knew about what i was listening to. Having someone talking about their sexuality gay or straight in my class without parental consent i believe is forcing views upon us. If just to learn about straight sexuality I need a permission slip, why wouldn’t i need one to learn about homosexuality?

The only “gay agenda” is exposing students to the equality of ALL PEOPLE. Far from “the three R’s” schools have a responsability to prepare students for the future. With the demographics coming down the American road you better believe they’ll need diversity education if they want to survive, much less succeed.

I find many of the posts repugnant. Nothing is going to make someone gay if they’re not, nothing is going to turn someone straight if they aren’t. And I take issue with the rabid depiction of the guest speaker. Obviously the tirade departs from reality, and in subsequent posts it’s pretty clear that so does the writer.

The poster has succeeded in clearly showing why we need such guests and courses: Hate is not an American value that needs to continue and spread.
