Vic Kralj, owner of the Bistro at 1001 B St. in downtown Hayward, fondly remembers late beer blogger and former Oakland Tribune reporter Bill Brand, who died last month after being struck by a MUNI bus in San Francisco.

“He was always mentioning the Bistro in his blog,” Kralj said. “He was such a great, mellow guy.”

Thursday (March 26) is Brand’s birthday, and Kralj decided to host an event in his honor, celebrating his late friend with rare beers, appetizers, chocolates, and plenty of toasts and camaraderie. It starts at 6:30 p.m.

Kralj said he plans on making it an annual affair, and all proceeds will be donated to the Contra Costa Food Bank.
