Spotted two red-light cameras going up at Hesperian Boulevard and West A Street…

there everywhere now.
While there certainly is a need to avoid creating opportunity for police reports to read……”YELLOW ACCELERATOR MET GREEN ANTICIPATOR!” tHE FACT REMAINS THAT THEIR IS A NEED TO GENERATE INCOME FOR CITY COFFERS.
A ‘LOL’ of my wife’s acquaintemce at Senior Citizens group at Al;l Saints Church got hit with a budget busting fie for failing to come to a full stop in a right hand curb controlled turn lane…. when there was no oncoming traffic..
The ‘young’ widow lady was jarred by the amount of the fine…. something in excess of $300 or so we are told.
Gezz, Sure glad she wasn’t on ‘the dole!.
The city should have done this long ago before they tapped the citizens of Hayward a 5.5% utility tax. Not only red light violations but speeding as well as parking violations. Not only did Hayward build to nice parking garages in Downtown Hayward but there is no parking fee. Wow what a deal offered by a city that has a deficit. I guess some of that 5.5% utility tax that goes in the general fund will help pay for upkeep and the lighting bill. They can qualify this spending as safety
“Justwatching” assunes that only those residents paying the 5% utility tax are going to get tagged at the video camera locations where the fines for traffic locations are fairly heavy.
Quite the contrary to that idea, most of us poor Hayward folk, are quite aware of the need to watch our selves in the observance of the law.
What pleases me is that Hayward is gonna ‘get rich’ off those slobs who use our streets on their way to work…. Hayward is not the Heart of the Bay unless you care to describe it as the COLD HEART OF THE BAY!
JUST THINK ABOUT IT FOR A BIT… THOSE CHARACTERS WITH A HEAVY FOOT ON THE WAY TO OR FROM WORK WHERE THEIR JOBS ARE located ACROSS THE HAYWARD/san mateo BRIDGE OR the DUMBARTONAND WHO SNEAK NORTH, AVOIDING I-880 BUT FAVORING USE OF HESPERIAN OR MISSION TO REACH I-238 OR I-580(W) OR SAN lORENZEO, SAN LEANDRO ARE GOING TO MAKE US RELATIVELY WEALTHY IN TERMS OF THE FINES THEY PAY…. SAME THING APPLIES TO THOSE WHO ARE LATE TO WORK GOING THE OTHER WAY IN THE MORNING COMMUTE!
THANKS TO THE LOSS OF THE 238 bY-pass, Hayward will have the Granddaddy of the traffic ticket business and maybe we will weather the additional need to hire more cops. If all goes well, with the aid of the 5.5% utility tax we wiil be able to OFFER THE OWNERS yythe cost to re-pave the Southland Mall Parking lot where the Alameda County Congestion MANAGEMENT AGENCY HAS STRONGLY SUGGESTED THAT TRUCKS USE THE PARKING AREA aAT THE MALL AS A ‘REST STOP’.
GEEZ…. EVREYBODY KNOWS THAT UNCONTROLLED REST STOPS BRING HOOKERS AND THEIR DRUG DEALIN PIMPS TO THE AREAS WHERE NON-PROFESSIONAL TRUCK STOPS ARE PERMITTED TO JUST OCCUR,
tHEN WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT LITTLE CITY OF ALBANY WITYH IT’S 15,000 POPULATION AND PROBABLE REGISTERD VOTERS OF ABOUT 5,000 WILL NOT PERMIT RE-USE OF THE FAILING GOLDEN GATE FIELDS AS A ‘PROFESSIONALLY OPEREATED TRUCK STOP AT THAT IDEAL LOCATION.
WANT TO GET REALLY STEAMED UP? SF cHRONICLE PUBLISHED A STORY ABOUT LIVERMORE AIRPORT ‘TAKING OFF’
THEY OPENED ANHAYWARD REVISED IT’S NOISE ORDINANCE, WHICH CAUSED A BIG DROP IN FLIGHT OPERATIONS AT HAYWARD. THEN, AMUISINGLY, THE MANY JETS USING LIVERMORE CAUSED A NOISE PROBLEM IN PLEASANTON…. WHICH MADE IT NECESSARY FOR AIRCRAFT USING LIVERMORE TO MAKE AN IMMEDIATE RIGHT HAND TURN AFTER LIFTING OFF THAT PATH WHICH TOOK AIRCRAFT OVER THE VACANT LAND ADJACENT TO I-580 AT THE FALLON RD/ EL CHARRO OVERPASS.
IN 1999/2001 ERA, PER Sf CHRONICLE STORY OF JANUARY 2001, THE FAA HANDED OVER ABOUT $30 MILLION TO LIVERMORE TO BUY THAT LAND. THE RESTRICTIOHN FROM FAA WAS “THOU SHALL NOT BUILD ANYTHGING NOISE SENSITIVE!’ SO WHAT HAS lIVERMORE DONE WITH THE DOUGH? YOU REALLY NEED TO KNOW?
I KNOW THE ANSWER and I thingk the taxpayers got the short end of the stick when Livermore approved an as yet un-BUILT “Manufacturer’s Retail Mall’. This business, when it is ever built, will punish retail stores in Dublin and Pleasanton.
A truck stop at that location would be secure from outside influennces and have facilities which would bring in more sales tax revenue than some dumb retail store. ( Manufacturer;s retail outlets in Vacaville and Gilroy are suffering!
A truck stop at Livermore would enable cancellation of the long put off, expenditure of unavailable dollars, (billions,) needed to widen Altamont Pass and since trucks would be enabled to avoid time and fuel wasting entanglment with comm=ute traffic…. we would all be well off !
Now, if you want to complain about wasted tax money then complain to the newspapers who have ‘passed’ on the opportunity’ to do constructive, investigative reporting.
Sorry Monica… another long one!
