Cunningham vigil tonight

A vigil is planned for 6 p.m. today at the scene of this week’s horrific slaying of a man in front of his 13-year-old daughter.

Willie Lee Anderson, pastor of the New Bethel Community Church, said that while Thomas Cunningham didn’t attend services there and he did not know him personally, there’s a need to get the community together after Tuesday night’s shooting.

“Our sense of security has been lost,” Anderson said. “We’re coming together to show support for this family and support as a community. We cannot stand back any longer.”

The vigil will begin at 6 p.m. at the shopping center near the bottom of Kelly Hill, at B and Vermont streets.

IT IS NOT A SENSE OF SECURITY WHICH HAS BEEN LOST. WHAT SEEMS TO BE OUR GREATEST NEED IS A RE-CREATION OF A ‘SENSE OF COMMUNITY’. THE SENSE OF COMMUNITY IS initiated and then DEVELOPED WITHIN THE HOME. It IS SUPPORTED ( NOT SUPLANTED) BY AN EFFECTIVE SCHOOL SYSTEM SUPPORTED BT ‘RESPONSIBLE’ PARENTS.

Of all the school districts in Alameda County. HUSD is ranked at the bottomn when using API scores.

Some might blame the problem on the school district…

I blame it it on the lack of a sense of community. When witnesses avoid being seen as ;snitches’ etc then we are all in deep trouble.

Rise up! Demand an opportunity to become involved as a volunteer in some fashion at HUSD. or for that mmatter any local Public schools.

Do not be discouraged but demand that the Trustees find some way in which you serve the childrenm either directly or indirectly, as long as the children see you doing it on a steady, consistent manner.

It’s called ‘modeling’ and you do not need to be a parent to make a contribution to the ‘sense of community’ which is present in successful schools..
