oN ANOTHER MATTER, RUMOR HAS IT THAT A RECALL IS BEING CONSIDERED.... IT PROBABLY INVOLVES THE husd BOARD OF DIRECTORS AND SPRANG UP DURING THE BEEF OVER THE HPD AGREEMENT WITH HUSD INVOLVING THE SRO PROBLEM.

( DO WE NEED A GLOSSARY OF ACRONYMS?

I DETEST THE IDEA OF A RECALL. NO MATTER WHAT THE RATIONALE FOR A RECALL (EXCEPT THOSE CAUGHT WITH THEIR HANDS IN THE 'TILL'!0, THE EXPENSE OF AN ELECTION DIRECTLY INVOLVING AN ELECTION OUT OF THE NORMAL SEQUENCE OF ELECTIONS, IS QUITE LARGE AND WOULD IMPOSE ITSELF, BY LAW, large expense UPON THE SCHOOL DISTRICT.

IN 1994 A DISGRUHNTLEWD GROUP LED BY A FORMER, seriously DISGRUNTLED PRINCIPAL, ALMOST ACHIEVED IT'S GOAL OF CAUSING A RECALL ELECTION. I AM PROUD TO SAY THAT WHEN THOSE GUYS SET UP THEIOR CARD TABLE AT VARIOUS SUPER STORES AROUNR TOWN, THAT I, AS AN INDIVIDUAL, PICKETED THOSE CHARACTERS, CAUSING 'FRONT PAGE' PUBLICIRT, NEGATIVE TO THEIR ACTIONS.

NOW NEARING 80 YEARS OF AGE, I WONDER IF I HAVE THE STAMINA TO UBNDERTAKE THAT TASK AGAIN. ESPECIALLY SINCE NONE IN THIS SEEMINGLY DISINTERESTED TOWN CAME OUT TO HELP ME IN THAT BATTLE. NONE, NOT ONE TEACHER, NOR ONE UNION ORIENTED HUSD EMPLOYEE, WHOSE POCKET BOOK WOULD HAVE BEEN AFFECTED, CAME OUT TO HELP1 NO PARENT, TEACHER OR OVER BURDENED TAXPAYER WAS SUFFICIENTLY INTERESTED TO LEND A HAND!

THAT IS WHY I AM SOMETIMES SEEN AND HEARD USING THE TERM 'DOWN'TOWN WHEN DESCRIBING OUR BUSINESS CENTER.
WAKE UP FOLKS!

WHAT THIS TOWN NEEDS IS ASSISTAHNCE FROM CONCERNED CITIZENS IN THE NEEDED AID TO HUSD. BRING IT IN THE FORM OF VOLUNTEERISM, ON A CONSISTANT BASIS, IN AREAS OF ACTIVITY WHICH SERVE TO REDUCE CLASSROOM TRANSCIECE AS WELL AS JUST PLAIN ACTS OF 'HOOKY' AND WORST OF ALL, 'DROPOUTS!!

DID YOU KNOW, THAT ON ANY SCHOOL DAY 7% OF THE HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS ARE ABSENT AT AMAJOR COST, IN LOST ADA MONEY, iF THAT IS NOT BAD ENOUGH, SEE ANOTHER 5% of middle school students absent with out excuse and 3% of elementasry students are absent! That very high rate of absenteeism costs HUSD $5,000,000 per year in lost support of money emanating from the state of California

One can only wonder when attention, especially by PARENTS AS WELL AS teachers, will be drawn to that problem....

Perhaps we need a 'town hall meeting' ?

"Just watching" fails to recognize the 'Interim' supt. J. Duran came out of retirement to aid HUSD in it's distress. This is Trip # 2 for the Lady who lives in Arizona when not aiding HUSD. Now, why would you expect the lady to drive by herself all the way from Arizona not knowing when she would need to drive back home? the $500 per month works out to $16.60 per day which seems a favorable rate for a car which is not in a fancy class!

Do not be too hard on the Lady, she might quit and then HUSD would be in a canoe on a swift river without a paddle.

If you had been observant you would know that MS. DURAN attended an educators conference where she let it be known that a job was open,,, thus speeding up the replacement search. THAT INVOLVED A TRIP TO MONTERY AND BACK..... YOU WANT SHE SHOULD HIRE A TAXI?

Be aware that when Vigil was hired she expressed reservations. Probably because HUSD was the 9th occasion that he had been hired aS A SUPERINTENDEDNT, HE SOON BRAGGED THAT HE HAD, AT THAT TIME, ONLY BEEN FIRED ONCE IN A JOB EXPERIENCE COVERING FOUR STATES OF THE 50 IN cONTINENTAL USA

I TEND TO AGREE WITH DURAN'S ASTUTE REMARK .... LOOKING BACK ON MY OWN EXPERIENCE IN THE WORLD OF WORK....JUST WHO WAS IT THAT MADE THE DECISION TO HIRE A JOB HOPPER?

SO, STIFLE CHEAP CRITICISM, IF YOU ARE ABLE!

Dispair.... Loss of Hope?

Wow! If that is the case.,things are really tough!

As for me, I'll just keep raking the leaves and turning over the rocks, certain in the knowledge that something will 'turn up' and that things will change for the better.... it is not un-like that last scene scene in 'Gone with the wind' where Scarlet's last spoken words from the movie are .... "Tomorrow is a better day!"

Small ideas from grass roots folk.... will bloom large soon! It is just that the general public needs to "buck up" or "hold heads high..." Above all, stop cursing Pres. O'Bama. Look for ways to be helpful toward HUSD.

Volunteer! Push your kids into volunteer service. Let them out the front door with the advice that they need to make friends by being a friend to all.

I think the district is in for some big cuts. They didn't really cut the last year or so, so now they have to do it all at once. And even though they kept things like K-3 low class room size, the district's state scores have dropped at most schools. The district could help by stopping all outside contracts but they won't. Truthfully, this wouldn't save all that much, but it would be an example. I think we can all write until we are exhausted; there is no state money. The state did the same thing; instead of making cuts that were needed, they hung on hoping that things would improve. What has happened is that where foreclosure were in low income areas, they are now moving into higher income areas as people use up their resources. If your 20 percent in the hole, you have to cut 20 percent of your expenses, like it or not. With the average unemployment being 7 months, times are still hard.

Well, I wouldn't like to go back to the old rubber stamping board either, but man, Reynoso can talk! Tonight Gonzales told him she couldn't listen to him anymore.

Seems like the D.O. is still top-heavy when it comes to $$. Reynoso said we are spending almost 5 grand a DAY on business managers, and basically pushed the staff to work for their money without hiring outside consultants. And $935/day is obscene, even though Duran is better than any of the supts. we've had in the 10 yrs. I've been with the district.

As for Vigil, don't let the door hit you on the way out . . . He must be laughing all the way to the bank. Turns out history DOES repeat itself, at least in Hayward.

I have been watching some of these school board meetings and I admit they are actually not so dry anymore. I was surprised how much the current interim superintendent is getting paid. Almost $1000 a day YIKES!!! Just like the previous post complained. WOW!!. I am sure the people are thinking the expense of how much money was paid for the last one and this new superintendent. I can see why that board member Reynoso gets upset sometimes when he talks about all contracts with his administrators. Something interesting he brought up was a performance clause for the superintendent. But I don’t think the rest of the board agreed with that. It seems the HUSD staff does not know what they are doing. Finally we get someone on the board that stands out and holds someone accountable and NOT be a part of the old rubber stamp board.
