I have not necessarily agreed with everything that has gone on under Mr. Jones’ administration of the city, but I must say some of these disagreements have to do with Mr. Jones’ following our City Council’s guidance.

In any case, I think we are lucky he has stepped forward, as has Mr. Armas, to serve in this position.

Well folks, it seems we may have lost THE thing which is called ‘concern for the community’ as well as the kids, in a situation which calls for personal sacrifice. SO WHEN MR. JONES MAKES A SACRIFICE…. HE MIGHT HAVE RESPONDED TO CONSCIENCE….. WHICH MANY OF US LACK!

Had that idea been a bit more pervasive through out the total community, we might not find ourselves living in a school district which is so poor in reputation that we all suffer loss in the value of our homes; compound that with the loss in value due to the bank foreclosure problem.( CLEARLY A LACK OF CONSCINECE AMONG CERTAIN BANK FINACIAL ISTITUTION LEADERS.

The way out? A town hall meeting at which negative thoughts are taboo; we must all put our collective heads tooether and seek exploration of positive thoughts, in a grass roots effort to see improvement in schools.

Perhaps a few volunteers in such ad hoc groups as are neceesary to see sufficient numbers of folk involved.

Fot starters…. how about a ‘sports and promotion’ ad hoc group or ‘commission’ self charged with the thought that money can be raised to assure continuation of the Schhol kids involvement with athletic leagues…. saving the budget a fairly good sum?
Or, can the money be raised by such diverse activity as Christmas tree sales or hole in one contest?
Can we talk ourselves into a parcel tax sufficient to raise about $4,000,000 to aid the budget….; that sum could be raised with a parcel tax of around $OO EACH HOSEHOLD, if we LIMITED ourselves with parcel tax of around $100 per year. For three or four years.

Another thing… did you know that with an absenteeism rate of 7% at just the high school level, we lose about $1,000,000 + ‘hOOKEY MEANS LOSS OF AVERAGE DAILY ATTENBDENCE MONEY!

WHERE IS PARENTAL RESPONSIBILITY INVOLVED IN OUR TWIN MONEY LOSERS….TRANSIEMNCE AND ABSENTEEISM? WOULD YOU JOIN AN AD HOC GROUP WILLING TO ADDRESS THAT PROBLEM IF ONE WERE CREATED?

Think positive…. remember POGO the cartoon strip where the main character frequently used the expression…. “we have met the enemy and they is us!”

STOP COMPLAINING… PRESS FOR A ‘TOWN HALL MEETING’ AT WHICH WE CAN SORT THINGS OUT AMONG OURSELVES AND VOLUNTEER IN AREAS AT WHICH OUR INDIVIDUAL TALENTS ARE BEST UTILIZED.

SURE, SOME OF US HAVE NO CHILDREN IN husd SCHOOLS…. WHY DOES THAT RELIEVE US OF RESPONSIBILITY TO THE COMMUNITY? BE RATIONAL IN YOUR ANALYSIS… DO NOT COMPLAIN IF YOUR FAILURE TO VOLUNTEER IS PART OF COLLECTIVE PROBLEM IN THIS COMMUNITY!!
