New Hayward City Council members seated tonight

UPDATE: Here’s the story about outgoing council members Anna May and Kevin Dowling.

There’s supposed to be a police color guard ceremony, Mt. Eden choir rendition of the Star Spangled Banner and more fun at tonight’s special City Council meeting to swear-in the new members.

Here’s our story with comments from incoming members Marvin Peixoto and Mark Salinas.

Any thoughts on what you hope to see and hear from your new representatives?

Congratulations to the newly elected officials. Fairview definately needs a supermarket. I think safety should be the first consideration for Hayward, not partying. I think we have too much of that now. Just my opinion. Hayward has several areas like hospitals that are open 24 hours, and I would like to see these areas safer than they are. If you have to get a late night perscription, you shouldn’t be worrying about someone hurting you or shooting you for being in the wrong place. If we become safe, other things about Hayward will improve. Also, do we really need to build the rerouting of Foothill and Mission? The freeway has been adjusted, and I think most of the traffic now travels right around Hayward, not through the downtown. Why inconvenience our own citizens who need to reach downtown businesses? And, do we need to tear everything down in the downtown area? Those overgrown weeds look worse than the building they replaced.

    qdrn says,

You confuse Fairway Park with Fairview….. those two areas are at opposite ends of town as measured along Mission. Fairview is largely an unincorporated area of the SCHOOL DISTRICT AND ABOVE ALL ELSE….. iT ALREADY pOSSESES A Safeway Store on Foothill as well as another in nearby Castro Valley.

Thought you would like to know….

You are right, I stand corrected.

    tEACHERMAMA..

THE PARTY WAS HELD AT THE KICK OFF OF MR. ARMAS’ CAMPAOGN….. JULY 14TH, THE GREAT HOLIDAY OF THE FRENCH nATION, WAS THE DAY OF THE ‘KICKOFF’FOR ARMAS CAMPAIGN FOR THE TRUSTEE SEAT… ‘BASTILE DAY’ SAW NOT A WORD OF POLITICAL SPEACH, RECOGNIZING ‘BASTILE DAY’ AT THE ACAPULCO RESTAURANT ON HESPERIAN OPPOSITE THE KENNEDY PARK. THE PARKING LOT WAS FULL…….

ONLY ENGLISH WAS SPOKEN WHICH MUST OF ANNOYED ANY FRENCH FOLK ATTENDING. SPIRITS ARE HIGH IN THE ARMAS’ CAMP!

ODDLY, MS. BOCK DID NOT TAKE THE OPPORTUNITY TO PICKET THE JOINT!

QUESTION: IF bOTH ANNA MAY AND HER SOON TO BE SPOUSE GREG JONES, RUHN FOR A SEAT…. WILL REYNOSO FLIP OUT ?? wOULD HIS REACTION ADD ANOTHER 20 MINUTES TO THE TYPICal HUSD Trustee meetings?

    John W. Kyle,

Why do you speak with all capital letters in your comments to Teachermama? It seems so disrespectful and discourteous to those of us who read and listen. The connotation is that you are screaming. There is no need for you to do this to get your point across in civil discourse. It is like swearing and there is no need to do so. I am no supporter of the French. The food at Acapulco is OK. That Latinos would celebrated on Bastille Day is peculiar, what with the pathetic history of Maximillian and Carlotta.
