What’s going on with the HayWord comments section?

This blog is being reviewed by the newsgroup’s online team. I requested their assistance because it’s just getting way too venomous. It’s supposed to be a forum for people to weigh in on issues and voice concerns and forward ideas for opinion. It’s not a venue for personal attacks. As a reporter, I’m reluctant to start refereeing the dialogue — that would make me a target for accusations of bias and all that. Not the kind of thing I’d like to get involved with.

As far as school district goings on, I’m currently investigating the school board overpayment — spoken with county and state officials, and they say it’s something that should be handled within the district. Getting more information come Monday, should have a story next week. As for the receivership issue, from what I understand that Sept. 8 deadline was flexible. When more money is found, and payroll can be made, more time is bought. I’m also supposed to hear more on that come Monday, including a more concrete timeline on what needs to be done by when.

To sum it up, I’m not ignoring the goings on here at the HayWord. Can we cut the vitriol for the time being? Sniping leads to retaliations, and it turns into something that no one really wants to read. Let’s all take a breather. Everyone wants to make Hayward schools better, right? This isn’t the way to do it.

Now, I’m going to get back to my already stunted weekend. Take care, everybody!

Oh, and thanks for reading the HayWord!
