Philip Ladew appointed to AlCo ed board

I hear Alameda County Board of Education trustees were deadlocked over two candidates at a special meeting last week. This press release just came out:

Philip Ladew to Join Alameda County Board of Education

Hayward, November 1, 2010 — The Alameda County Board of Education has provisionally appointed Philip Ladew to serve as the new Trustee representing Area 4: San Leandro and the western unincorporated communities of Ashland, Castro Valley, Cherryland, San Lorenzo and Fairview.

Mr. Ladew is Associate Director and Legal Director for the California CASA Association (Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children). Mr. Ladew manages operations and child welfare policies supporting CASA programs that provide volunteer mentor-advocates to abused and neglected children.

In his application to board members, Mr. Ladew referenced his personal experience as a Child Dependency Attorney representing children at the Alameda County Public Defender’s Office. He has served as a staff attorney and Equal Justice Works Fellow for the National Center for Youth Law.

Mr. Ladew pledges to bring his expertise in working with the Juvenile Justice courts, Juvenile Hall, Special Education programs, and the expulsion appeals processes as representative for Area 4.  His term ends June 2012.

Mr. Ladew replaces former trustee Mr. Felix Elizalde on the Alameda County Board of Education. Mr. Elizalde passed away on September 4, 2010 after a long battle with cancer.

Let us hope that Mr. Ladew is able to build bridges between the disenfranchised stake holders in the County. There is so little money, such a great need and such a gap between the dreams and reality. He has a well trod path by Mr. Elizalde to follow. Let us hope that he gets new shoes.
