My family loves Val’s! Lucy loves the chocolate milkshake.
We have only tried the cinnamon rolls from Diggers. Absolutely delicious! The services was excellent.
We tried to go to Kokyos’ the other night, it was packed! Too bad for us, but wonderful for Hayward.
It’s promising to see our downtown busy, however I am concern about the safety at the nightclubs; we do not need another Kumbala experience.

I think it is very hard to find anything as an alternative to Val’s. My wife and I have eaten at both Diggers and Main Street Diner which is at 22622 Main St, Hayward, CA 94541 (510) 583-1605.

We were at Diggers on Tuesday. The burgers are not real meaty and burgerlicious, like Val’s are, but definitely OK. The shake is also good, not as much as Val’s and I thought sweeter. They use real whipped cream like Val’s. The fries were as good as Val’s and a similar huge quantity.

My wife had a BLT and it was not to her liking, too salty and not just from the bacon. Tomato and lettuce could have been fresher and the whole sandwich was a bit wet. She did not finish it.

Service at Diggers was good.

The Main Street Diner was definitely the better of the two. Much beefier burger, fries were excellent. I did not have a shake there, but a beer instead. My wife had a terrific salad and sandwich. She was pleased with it.

Neither makes it to Val’s level, but then there are note many that do. I would recommend Boulevard Burger in San Leandro as a very competitive burger, shake and fries.

I read on yelp that there are two new diners in Hayward: Diggers (across from the police station) and another one on Main St (I forget the name). Have you tried them? For Sunday and Monday I mean, when Val’s is closed

Ive been seeing downtown businesses with good amount of people. Was at the downtown movies with friends last week to find it with hella people inside.

I also noticed that Zuckersuss has became very popular also. one of my favs downtown.

Val’s is the benchmark of the great burger and chocolate shake. There are many tasty burgers, shakes and fries in the Bay Area. The simple combination of Val’s Mama Burger, fries and a chocolate shake are the benchmark by which all others are measured. Many are just as good, but none are collectively better. Val’s should be declared a World Heritage Site.
