Ms. Sanchez was hired as the associate superintendent one week before this superintendent hire. As far as I know Mr. Palacios is not a credentialed educator..Which would be ok, I guess, if we had some strong curriculum in place in HUSD. Since that is not the case, my bet is that they hired the Sancez person to cover education and Palacios to balance the books. So I am wondering why we need an assistant superintendent/director of business services? I’m lost too Qodrn.

Mr. Palacios was head of the business department of the Pittsburg school district. (Money, money) Are not are problems with education? Any way he is from Peru, lives in Oakland (lived?), has four kids, speaks Spanish and attended college back east. (Columbia?) Anyway he worked for Union City district for awhile also.

So, why did we hire this other lady now that we have a Superintendent? Or did we? I am a little lost. Vote was 3-2 so he is starting off in the hole so to speak.

Or did we hire the Venezuela model of the same name?

So the board has voted to bring Enrique Palacios (currently with the Pittsburg, CA school district) on board as our new superintendent. Hmmmmmm………………just have to hope and trust that this is a move in the right direction! The vote was 3-2.

Unfortunately in the case of parents most are simply ignorant and too hesitant to question those who are in power. In the case of the majority of people who seek public office they swallow the “power pill” too soon after they are elected and forget why it was they ran for office.

Qodrn, I was surprised to see the editorial too, not because I had not heard of the law, but because parensts are so vastly uninformend about their rights. See ParentRovolution.org for more info.

Even before the internet when Kathi Booth and I and other were defending the right of low income children to an equal education, other parents and teachers just couldn’t believe the laws. Even now, when the ACLU has won the same case against the State of CA, Luis Reynoso had to make a case for HUSD doing the right thing and informing parents.

Parents are consistently being led astray by those who are either ignorant or hungry for power. Shame on us.

today (July 20) the editorial in today’s paper is a bit of a stunner. It discusses a law that allows parents at low performing schools to (1) fire the principal, (2) close the school (3) establish the thing as a charter school or (4) bring the school under more direct parental control provided over 50 percent of the parents at the school agree to the changes.

So, if I read this right, many Hayward schools should be eligible for “reform.” Essentially, with a little organization Hayward school parents can simply put the district and teachers out of business if they wish.

Will this get the district to do its job? how will parents react to this law? Essentially, each under performing school could essentially be converted to a private school. Wow.

Eric I find that hard to believe. I think that they submit out of pocket expenses for district business and are re-embursed, and I do think that at the very least they have gas and car upkeep allowances. I hope that I am wrong.

Hayward Unified doesn’t offer administrators an expense account or allowances, according to board prez Brunner. “There’s no such thing as a district credit card,” she said.
