Hayward police blotter June 17-23

11:30 a.m.
Fremont PD units pursued burglary suspects into Hayward. Three suspects fled on foot in area of Orchard/Muir. HPD units assisted with perimeter and area search. One suspect was arrested.

12:30 p.m.
Unknown suspect enters City Hall and enters an employee’s office and takes her wallet containing credit cards and cash. The victim’s credit cards were used for credit purchases in the city. Incident still under investigation.

3:55 p.m.

A male and a female are caught trying to steal from Home Depot on Hesperian. When confronted by a Loss Prevention officer in the parking lot, the male produces a handgun and tells the LP to “Back the “expletive” up.” Both suspects get into an older model silver Volvo station wagon and flee with the stolen property. No injuries reported by loss prevention.

6:10 p.m.

Officers respond to the 31000 block of Burnham Ave. for a vehicle crashed into a residence. Vehicle and residence sustained moderate damage and 52-year-old driver was found without a heart beat inside the vehicle. Preliminary investigation indicates driver may have sustained a medical emergency prior to the crash. HFD was able to resuscitate driver, and he was transported to a local hospital.


7:00 a.m.

The District Command Office, with the assistance of the SWAT Team and other City Departments, conducted a probation compliance check on the 2400 block of Bradford Ave. 5 adults were detained. Methamphetamine, marijuana, drug paraphernalia and burglary tools recovered during the subsequent probation search. 3 adults in arrested for various charges.

9:24 a.m.

Officers respond to the 24000 block of Hesperian Blvd for a report of a potential hate crime. The unknown suspect(s) used a pink marker and wrote satanic symbols and “Toe up” – “Die you Pig” – “This used to be family theater” on three sides of the building. Incident still under investigation.

10.24 p.m.

Officers respond to a report of a robbery near Whitman Ave and Berry Ave. – Suspect confronted a citizen as she was walking south on Whitman Ave at Berry Ave. Suspect pointed a gun at citizen and demanded her purse. She refused to give it to him, so he grabbed her by the neck and forcibly took it from her. Suspect then fled on foot. Citizen was not injured. Loss was a purse, iPhone and credit cards.


10:47 p.m.

A group of patrons from the Street Fair become intoxicated. One patron gets into a fight with a group of males. The citizen’s brother and another friend tried to help him out during the fight. One of the male suspects stabbed one of the citizens involved in the fight during the scuffle. The suspects flee east toward Foothill Blvd. The citizen and his four friends are all extremely intoxicated, and one subject pushes a police officer. That individual was arrested for obstruction of justice. Suspects are still outstanding.



Officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon on the 28000 block of Murcia St. An altercation occurred inside the mobile home between the victim and two suspects. During the fight the victim was stabbed in the lower back. Victim also sustained facial lacerations from the fight. One suspect is identified as being involved in the fight, but not the stabbing. This suspect suffered a broken leg and was taken to the hospital. The second suspect had fled prior to HPD’s arrival.


12:15 a.m.

Hayward Police Department’s Homicide Unit, with the assistance of the Special Duty Investigative Unit arrest Homicide Suspect Michael Soutar. Soutar was arrested at the Wal-Mart parking lot on Hesperian Blvd. in San Leandro. Soutar is charged with the murder of Ezekiel Taylor on April 21, 2013. Soutar had been on the run since.

12:30 pm.

Gang-related incident on the 200 block of Newton Ct. Two vehicles pull next to each other and their occupants get into a verbal argument. Occupants get back inside; one of the occupants throws a brick at the other vehicle. The other vehicle then rams the other car. Vehicle sustained moderate damage. Incident still under investigation.

6:40 p.m.

A female was assaulted with a wine bottle on the 900 block of A St. Three known transients were drinking together when an argument ensued. Two males began hitting a female and eventually one of them hit the female in the head with a wine bottle causing a large contusion. Two other known transients arrived and pulled the two suspects off of the female. The suspects fled on foot toward A St. The female victim was transported to Eden. The suspects are only known to the victim by their first names, but ID’s are pending via photo lineups.

10:38 p.m.

21995 Mission Blvd. Officers respond to an armed robbery on the 21000 block of Mission Blvd. The suspect was armed with a handgun, silver slide with a black frame. The suspect covered his face with a scarf and had a hood pulled tightly over his head. The suspect was wearing gloves. Nobody was injured. Loss is estimated at $3000, and the suspect took a bottle of Remy Martin from the shelf as he left.

9:23 pm

Officer attempts to stop a suspect for a code violation on a bicycle. The suspects jumps off his bike and attempts to flee from the officer. Officer initiates a foot pursuit, and suspect is apprehended. Suspect arrested for fleeing from the police on a lawful detention. Subject is also found to have a felony warrant.
