Hayward area outdoor summer movie season begins June 13

The local free family-friendly outdoor movie season starts Friday, June 13, with “Frozen” at Adobe Park in Castro Valley.

The free family-friendly movie night is being put on by Hayward Area Recreation and Park District. Those going are encouraged to take picnic dinners, flashlights and low-back small chairs or blankets.

The movie starts at 8:15 p.m. at the park, 20395 San Miguel Ave. Beginning at 6 p.m., people can listen to music, chat with local vendors, get health and wellness information, and play at the park district’s mobile recreation program.

The park district also is showing “Despicable Me 2″ at 8:15 p.m. July 18 at Hayward City Hall Plaza, at the corner of B and Watkins streets. “Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2″ also will be screened at 8:15 p.m. Aug. 8 at City Hall Plaza.

The park district holds its final free summer outdoor movie night at 8:15 p.m. Sept. 12 at San Lorenzo Village Homes Association Little League Park, 1062 Grant Ave.”Monsters University” will be the featured film.

In San Leandro, free movies will be shown July 9 at Halcyon Park, 1245 147th Ave.; July 23 at Chabot Park, 1698 Estudillo Ave.; and Aug. 6 at Washington Manor Park, 14900 Zelma St. Allo shows start at 8:30 p.m. For more information, call the San Leandro Recreation and Human Services Customer Service, 510-577-3462.
