Apparently, according to Paula Abdul, “American Idol” producers were aware that Paula Goodspeed had been stalking Abdul for years when she showed up to audition for season five of the show.
Goodspeed, of course, killed herself outside Abdul’s home last month.
Abdul says she begged producers not to let Goodspeed near her. “Begging” sounds a bit far-fetched. If she was that concerned, she should’ve just got up and walked out.
Then again, she’d already had restraining orders against her, as Goodspeed allegedly sent Abdul naked pictrues of herself and wrote she wanted to be Abdul’s guardian angel when she was in heaven.
Geez — those sound like pretty nice things to offer somebody.
Abdul claims that producers wanted to ratchet up the entertainment value of Goodspeed’s audition at which, of course, Simon Cowell ripped her — which may or may not have led to her downward spiral ending in death.
I have it on good authority that Abdul already wanted off “Idol” before Goodspeed killed herself and was/is shopping at least one new reality show idea to networks.
She did say, in an interview with Barbara Walters on XM radio Monday when Walters asked why she’s still on the show, merely that she’s “under contract.” Sounds like a ringing endorsement.
Cowell is still the sick attraction, but busting up the team will be the beginning of the end of this show. If it hasn’t started already. Frankly, I’m amazed it’s lasted this long.
