Not to be rude … heh heh … but that’s maybe the dumbest analogy I’ve ever heard from a reader in trying to tell me I’m wrong. Please … why can’t 90-year-old women hold the door for themselves? Because they’re 90, that’s why. The door hits them and they fall down and break a hip. I’m not asking you to freakin’ paint their house. Just hold the damned door for a couple seconds.
Seriously – are you really arguing about this? Is this a prank?
What about people who don’t hold the door period? Didn’t you read the column? They lack manners.
Yes, I’m saying you’re supposed to hold the door all day like a doorman. Don’t go to work. Don’t feed your children. Don’t get on with your life. Just stand there like an idiot and hold a door open. That’s EXACTLY what I was trying to say.

You say, “I’ve seen men walk into restaurants just yards in front of an elderly person and not only not stand aside to hold the door, but allow it to nearly crash into them.” What about people who don’t hold the door for others period. Is that rude? Are we supposed to hold the door all day for people like a doorman? Why can’t people open their own door!
