Kids are so darned … awful

I had all four of my girls home this weekend, which was a lot of fun. Until they started getting mean, peeing themselves, destroying the house we’re trying to sell, and demanding I buy them things I couldn’t afford if my last name was Gates.
The most precious moment was this morning when my 7-year-old decided she didn’t like me, then took the trouble to dig up the Sunday paper so she could find my column … and paint her nails green over my face. Nice.
I did reminisce some over the 21-year-old emptying the hot water heater during a 30 minute shower, just like she used to do when she was 15, when I had to beat on the door and scream at her to get out because EBMUD just called to say the reservoirs were running dangerously low. When I was leaving the house yesterday – as we had possible buyers coming over to look at the house – I thankfully noticed that she had decorated the bathroom towel racks with her under garments.
Someday I’ll be old and wish these kids were around more to get on my nerves.
