I’ve been kind of a downer lately. Which is probably why I haven’t been blogging. I’m not finding much to write about, nor am I finding much amusement in the usual things.
But today someone did something that – even for a couple hours – perked up my mood considerably.
First off, know it was a lousy morning. I woke up at 5 a.m. to a violent headbutt from my 18-month-old, whom I didn’t even know was in bed with me and has a dangerously giant skull. Then about an hour later I got up to use the boy’s room, came back, and there was a 7-year-old in my spot.
To make some room, I took the toddler back to bed and she, of course, woke up and wanted to play. Then the most annoying cell phone/alarm clock started going off. Realizing I was defeated, I grabbed the baby and started our morning, feeling like a volcano ready to erupt.
Not much later, I got into a minor tiff with my wife for the second time this week. That’s usually about how many confrontations we have in a year – seriously, we get along pretty swell. Then I realized my weekend trip would have to be canceled for other reasons. I wasn’t pleased.
Bleh Bleh – whatever – I went to the gym to burn off some anger and, when I got home, noticed my wallet was missing. I’m like a 12-year-old that way. I lose my wallet at least once a week but, somehow, have had the same one since 1996.
When I was in the shower, I heard my doorbell ring but couldn’t get to it in time (though I did see a guy in a blue car pulling away). Which was probably good, as I was ready to strangle the next person I saw. About a half hour later, as I was leaving the house, I noticed someone set my wallet on my porch. I guess someone found it at the gym, looked up my address, found my house, and took the time to drop it off. Without any money missing (like there would be much anyway).
So. to the guy in the blue car – allow me to say thanks. You showed some human decency when I really needed to see some. Oh, I’m still in a pissy mood. But it’s not as bad as it could be. And for that, I thank you.
