Everybody: How long IS it?
The line at Walnut Creek DMV is so long today, I just went in, waited ten minutes, took a number … and drove back to work to get a few things done.
One hour and 55 minutes is the current wait time. My ticket was punched at 2:35. So, even if they miraculously speed things up, I think I’m safe heading back around 4.
And don’t give me the old “Why didn’t you just make an appointment” deal. The appointment book is running six weeks ahead, and I didn’t foresee having to go to DMV for this particular issue six weeks ago.
This is why people snap in public places. Thankfully there are still one or two of us who don’t carry weapons in public.
Of course, this is just another outgrowth of the state budget crisis. DMV currently takes furlough days three Fridays a month (I know, because I went early last Friday morning only to find an empty parking lot and a little man who didn’t speak very good English handing out fliers for some insurance company in Pittsburg who claims to be able to do EVERYTHING DMV can do … except issue duplicate car titles, which is what I need and what I discovered after I took the bait and drove to Pittsburg).
Just a word of advice – if you do foresee needing to go to DMV more than six weeks from now, make an appointment. And leave your firearm at home. Don’t take it out on the fine people who work there. They know how screwed up California is – they’re the ones having to take furlough days.
I’ll post any exciting updates on the situation from the line at DMV at http://twitter.com/insertfoot. Pray for me.
