I’m not sure why, but in getting my stepdaughter ready to leave this morning, instead of saying something like “Lorelei, it’s time to go.” I screeched “Lorrreeeleeiiiii, it’s time to Go-hoooooooooooooo.”
I have no idea why, at that particular moment, the singsong call of the bad guy from the movie “The Warriors” popped into my head (only it was “Warrrrriiiiiiiorrrssss, come out to plaaaaaayyyyy”). But Lorelei being Lorelei – once I coaxed her from her hiding place and calmed her down – wanted to know where that came from. I tried to explain that it was from a movie. Then we got on YouTube and I showed her the scene and – though she was no closer to understanding what the hell I was talking about – she was intrigued.
Lorelei: So not that basketball team.
Me: No. The Warriors in the movie played defense.
Lorelei: So they were hobos?
Me: What? No, hobos aren’t in gangs.
Lorelei: And it was in a part of town that was bad, like an earthquake happened or something?
Me (oblivious): Didn’t you think the main guy looked like Andy Gibb?
Lorelei (oblivious): OK, don’t make that sound again.

I still have nightmares about that gang of mimes wearing suspenders and top-hats. *shudder*
