In what may qualify as the strangest pairing in TV history, a 1954 episode of General Electric Theater recently surfaced featuring James Dean playing opposite Ronald Reagan.
Reagan plays a doctor defending his family from a couple gun-toting punks, one of whom is played by Dean. I’m not sure who overacts more, but it’s kind of fun to watch. I especially like it when the cultural gap is not-so-subtly put on display as Dean turns on the radio and starts dancing around, while responsible, stoic Reagan tries to save his friend. Those irresponsible kids and their crazy jazz music will be the end of this country yet.
