Finally, a worthy charitable cause to get behind.
A guy in Seattle is raising money to offer Weezer ten million dollars to break up.
Excuse me for a second while I sign this check …
Anyway, citing the alleged poor quality of the last few Weezer records (generic, sound alike, the irony’s wearing thin, etc.) James Burns says the “abusive relationship” between Weezer and its fans needs to stop. Burns admits to never being a fan of Weezer, but makes a good, no, a great point when he says that, with every new record, Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo swears it’s the best record since “Pinkerton.” Which, of course, it isn’t because it’s not even the best record since the last Weezer record.
Burns’ offer was made on website thepoint.com. He says all he needs is $12 from all 852,000 people who bought Pinkerton.
Burns has raised $194 so far. Keep pluggin away, champ.
For the record, Weezer drummer Patrick Wilson says the band will do a “deluxe break-up” for nothing less than $20 million. Looks like I gotta write another check …
