Despite supporting gay marriage, East Bay Congressman John Garamendi turned down a marriage proposal from Stephen Colbert this week.

Garamendi, who represents the 10th Congressional District, was featured Wednesday on “The Colbert Report” as part of the show’s “Better Know a District” segment. Colbert ate Jelly Belly jellybeans from Fairfield, displayed a picture of Mount Diablo, said Walnut Creek changed its name from Nuts Creek “to avoid confusion with the nearby village of Testicle Falls.”

He also touted the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, where “the world’s most powerful laser” is “able to scan groceries in Ohio.”

Garamendi was a good sport, even when Colbert called him “Gary” and grilled him over why he didn’t live in the district he represents. He also asked Garamendi to marry him. “I’m not sure you’re my type,” Garamendi said. “If you think I’m fat, just say so,” Colbert replied.
