Prepare for Act 2: San Ramon Mayor Abram Wilson says he will run for the state Assembly again in 2010.

Wilson, the GOP nominee in District 15, lost on Nov. 4 to his Democratic opponent, Joan Buchanan, by 4 percentage points.

“Am I interested in running against in 2010?” Wilson said. “No. But will I? Yes. I believe I will run again in 2010. I ran to make a difference and when you are out there always trying to make a difference, you keep going.”

The 2008 election was among the most competitive Assembly contests in the state and most expect it will set spending records after all the financial reports have been calculated. Wilson and Buchanan, and their supporters, spent millions on mailers and TV ads.

Prior to Buchanan’s victory, it was the sole Republican-held partisan seat in the Bay Area.

If we needed yet another sign that San Joaquin County has officially joined the Bay Area, then this is it: GOP Stockton Mayor Ed Chavez has endorsed Democratic Assembly District 15 candidate Joan Buchanan over Republican nominee and fellow mayor Abram Wilson of San Ramon.

Chavez also recently endorsed Democratic Rep. Jerry McNerney of Pleasanton over Republican challenger and his Stockton neighbor Dean Andal.

Granted, Chavez used to be a Democrat and critics say changed parties in order to win the mayor’s seat. But still, what is going on in the Valley?

AD15 candidate Wilson releases his first TV ad

Following quickly on the heels of AD15 Democratic nominee Joan Buchanan, Republican candidate Abram Wilson has released his first television advertisement.

Abram Wilson’s commercial is a warm and positive message about his investment banking background,  his time as mayor of San Ramon and his roots as the son of school teachers. Buchanan unveiled her first commercial a few days ago.

Both candidates have stayed positive in the campaign so far.

We’ll see how long that lasts. Historically in this district, the campaigns have engaged in serious mud-slinging. This year has the potential to be even more toxic. The termed-out incumbent, Guy Houston, is the last Republican in the Bay Area to hold a partisan elected office. Meanwhile, Democrats have taken a slight party registration lead in the district and it is one of the few competitive Assembly seats in California.

TV isn’t cheap in this district, either, which stretches across several major media markets. Here’s his commercial:
