Jeffrey BassJeffrey Bass will be the new CEO of the Hiller Aviation Institute and Museum in San Carlos, the museum’s board and Chairman Steve Hiller announced Thursday.

Bass replaces interim CEO Dan Putman, a co-founder of Adobe Systems, who will return to his regular responsibilities on Hiller’s board of directors. Putman had been filling in since former CEO Alan Waufle, who had been at the helm since October 2002, stepped down at the end of July and moved to Florida.

Bass was the vice president of education, public programs and IMAX at the Milwaukee Public Museum, which focuses on natural history and science. For 18 years prior, he was the director of planetarium and astronomy programs for the Cranbrook Institute of Science in Bloomfield Hills, Mich. There, he developed exhibits and programs for a $31 million museum expansion, including an aviation academy, and served as the museum’s operations officer.

He received his Private Pilot license flying Cessna 152’s and 172’s out of the former Pontiac Municipal Airport (now the Oakland County International Airport) in southeast Michigan.

Bass was raised in San Jose and attended San Jose State University. He received a Doctorate in Music in 1978 from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
