The San Mateo City Council and the city's planning staff and development staff seem to be intimidated by the thought that developers will walk away from opportunities in San Mateo due to demands required by the city to approve projects. There seems a reluctance to put demands on developers for adequate off street parking, for "green" aspects of the projects, and for limiting density in some projects.

San Mateo is a very desireable city for developers. If one developer cannot adhere to the city requirements, another developer will take his place. The developers will develop, lenders will lend, and the builders will build in San Mateo because they want to be here.
