Ticketing has begun

Police officers issued 50 tickets to speeding drivers in the first week of a tri-city campaign to slow traffic, officials said.

The tickets were issued along the Pleasant Hill Road corridor last week. Pleasant Hill Road and Stanley Boulevard was the site of a fatal six-car crash in March.

A 12-week campaign to slow traffic was launched April 30. Lafayette, Moraga and Orinda police cluster their speed radar trailers in a different problem area every week, then follow up by issuing tickets to those who speed.

St. Marys Road in Moraga is up for heightened enforcement this week. Speed radar trailers were posted on the road Monday and Tuesday. Officers plan to patrol the area for speeders on Thursday.

This needs to be done. I hope it helps get the message across as it has been crazy here for far too long… Please ticket for auto noise, too!!! No more “bassing” the neighborhoods!!!

I saw a speed radar trailer on 1st Street near Lafayette Elementary. This is a good start but more is needed since so many kids are in this area.

Yay!! Finally! So nice to get someone to do something here. It has been crazy, with speeders at all hours and several near misses on our street. Its posted for 25mph but they go WAY faster than that. Kids are playing in the street and an SUV swerved around them and the driver glared at them. Please help!! More enforcement needed on neighborhood streets. Keep the kids safe
