Give your two cents

A survey in the wake of this months’ failed neighborhood road repair measure is being conducted to understand why the measure died. Those interested in taking the survey can click here.

Measure C, a $150 annual parcel tax for 30 years, fell short of the two-thirds vote required for passage on June 5. It was the second attempt in three years.

The survey is open to people who voted yes on the measure, those who voted no and those who didn’t vote at all. It’s being organized by the Fix Our Roads committee, which supported Measure C. The results will be presented at a July City Council meeting.

Author of Susan Polk book comes to Orinda

Orinda-based journalist Carol Pogash will give readings this week in Berkeley and Orinda from her book, “Seduced by Madness” about Orinda housewife Susan Polk, who murdered her therapist-turned-husband in 2002.

Pogash covered the court case and interviewed dozens of Polk family, friends and former patients.

Polk met her psychologist husband, Felix Polk, when she was a teenager and he was her therapist. Felix Polk divorced his wife of 20 years to marry Susan Polk. She stabbed him to death 20 years later.

After acting as her own attorney, she was found guilty by a Contra Costa County jury of second-degree murder. She claims self-defense.

Several jurors and the prosecutor are expected at the readings at 4 p.m. Thursday at Orinda Books, 276 Orinda Square; and 7 p.m. Saturday at Cody’s Book’s, 1730 Fourth St., Berkeley.

Missing Orinda woman found alive

A 67-year-old Orinda woman reported missing by her husband Tuesday afternoon is headed for an area hospital after officers found her this morning, Orinda police said.

The woman was found shortly before 8:30 a.m. on Orindawoods Road near Alta Orinda, less than a quarter-mile from her home, Orinda Police Chief Bill French said.

She suffered bruises and scrapes during her time missing and will undergo medical observation, French said. No word was immediately available on her condition, he said.

After the woman’s husband called police at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, East Bay Regional Park District and Lafayette police joined search and rescue deputies from the Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office in searching the area through the night, with help from a Highway Patrol helicopter.

Stupid HomeownerTricks

Make sure you read Mike Zampa in the upcoming June 15 Sun, when it’s time again for Stupid Homeowner Tricks, the quiz show that asks: Did strange voices in your head make you do that?

Zampa writes: “Remember kids, we have two rules on this program: 1) Never embarrass a contestant — they do a good enough job of that themselves.

“And 2) never try these tricks on your own. Our guests are professionals. They’ve had therapy.
As always, we’ll summarize this week’s stunts, and then provide analysis and a rating from our panel of judges.

“The contestants will be a CPA from Lafayette, a sales executive from Moraga and some guys who were too confused to remember where they live:”
