Sam Richards, editor of the Lamorinda Sun here .... I've had a few people ask me why Lafayette needs a Whole Foods store when there is one only a few miles away in downtown Walnut Creek.

That's a fair question; after all, the existing one isn't that far away, and many Lamorindans go to downtown WC regularly.

However, I've had many more calls than that, over the past six months, asking me what we know about Whole Foods, and when the Lafayette store will open. Most of those callers told me they want it closer to home, not only for convenience's sake but because they want to shop local.

While Lafayette has no shortage of grocery options, my very unscientific poll shows Whole Foods has local support, and that is good for everyone in Lamorinda.
