The door-to-door salesman that killed 90-year-old Lafayette resident Elizabeth Vuori in her home in 2005 was sentenced to life in prison on Friday.
Richard Craig McNew, 35, of Missouri, pleaded guilty to the charges against him as part of a deal with prosecutors. The deal ensured that McNew would avoid the death penalty.
During court on Friday, McNew offered an apology to the family of Vuori, claiming that he never had any intention of murdering her.
McNew sexually assaulted Vuori, which helped lead law enforcement to him through a DNA database.
