As a longtime community leader, Judy Carney has had a positive impact on Lafayette for years. She will be rewarded for her work March 20 when she will be honored as the 2009 Lafayette Citizen of the Year.

Carney has been involved in Lafayette schools since she moved to the area in 1992. In 1993, she served as the chairwoman for the Lafayette Elementary School parcel tax campaign. She has served on local school boards for fifteen years: seven on the Lafayette school board and eight on the Acalanes school board.

Her other community involvement efforts include chairing the Lafayette Reservoir Run and the Lafayette Sesquicentennial Parade. She also is a founding member of the Lafayette Community Foundation.

The Lafayette Citizen of the Year dinner will be held at the Lafayette Park Hotel on Friday, March 20 at 7 p.m.
