Orinda residents voted on the potential Orinda Union School District’s parcel tax increase today. The increase requires two-thirds of the vote. If passed, the $124 increase would bring the parcel tax to $509 per year.

In addition to potentially paying $509 for the OUSD’s parcel tax, Orinda residents also pay $189 per year for the Acalanes Union High School District’s parcel tax.

Supporters of the parcel tax increase claim the increase is necessary as the school district is set to face a budget deficit of over $1 million following state budget cuts. A $1 million budget deficit would force the school district to cut programs and let employees go.
